Yea I been cutting since I was 12 or 13 years old, that's been about 20 years ago. How much money do you think I have saved myself. You do the math. That's $$$$$$$ I been putting in my pocket all them years. Think about it. You can answer your own question.
Buy you some clippers homie.
Look to the skies and keep your eyes on the prize! I been through Hell but, STILL I RISE!
aight man. learning to cut ur own hair takes practice. not that its neccesarily hard, but it takes sum time getting used to. if u have a gaurd on there, that reduces the chances of u screwin up. so as long as u can get everything even, which might require u to go over ur head a few times, ull be alright. the only problem u may encounter when cutting ur own hair, is givin urself an edge up. of course it seems simple enuff, but the first time, dont expect it to be perfect. and if it is..... give me ur number, cuz u can come and cut my hair. but if u use a beard and mustache trimmer for ur edge, that will make it a whole lot easier because theyre smaller, and are easier to handle. try as best as u can to get the back, and dont be afraid to ask sum1 to help edge u up in the back if u need it. i doubt u'll have trouble askin, cuz u seem like a pretty straight forward guy. newayz, in the long run, ull save lots of money and time, and after awhile, ull be pretty darn good at cuttin ur own hair, and can start to experiment. good luck to ya.

I'm an African-American male living in NYC. I stumbled upons this Message Board after seaching the Web for advice on cutting my own hair. I've been going to a barber for years (think Barbershop). I have a couple "regular" barbers depending on where I am: a guy by my job, a guy close to my apt and the barber I actually prefer but halfway across the city. I'll jump to the point: I like getting my hair cut and I get it cut, at least, once a week. For me it's worth the money. The cut's always the same - a very low/skin fade. I've had it done thousands times, literally. I know I can do it. I know the clipper brand and blade number - everything. I even know the type of clipper that I don't like because it doesn't cut evenly (which no one other than someone who gets a fade can ever tell). So, should I do it? The clipper itself and the blades aren't cheap and I don't want to buy them and never do it. I figure if I screw it up royally I'll throw on a hat and run to a barber. My cut's close to bald anyway so if he has to take it all off to fix it ... fine with me. (I'll just blame it on using a "bad barber" - again - then pledge allegiance to only him if he fixes it.) My main reason for doing this is because I like having that "fresh cut" look and it's just time consuming to keep running to the barber given my schedule. And if I save some money too, that's just another reason to do it. It's certainly worth paying for only if I can't do it myself. The clipper and blades will pay for itself in 1 month or 4 self-cuts.
So, should I or shouldn't I? Is there anything I should know beforehand? Something I should watch out for? Is this a mistake waiting to happen? Bro's any of you tried it or currently doing it?
