Layla, box twist (I'm not sure if that is the right term for the word) is similar box braids, parting the hair into boxed sections and twisting the hair.

You should try washing and conditioning your hair, then while still wet twist (individual box twists) and then setting each one with a straw (something like a straw set). Use foam and and a mixture of hair oil (Shea Butter) and water in a spray bottle to keep you hair wet. Then when you're finished setting your hair sit under a dryer.

***If you have time, leave your hair twisted overnight, so that it will last longer***

The curls aren't quiet like the shirley temple curls after separating and styling, but they will be tight. I just tried it because I was looking for that same style--the straw set look.  Initially I didn't know how it was going to turn out, but it turned out to be very cute.

Have you tried doing a rod set and the let it dry and the pull the curls apart. A straw set may help you get what you are looking for as well.

My hair was recently cut just above shoulder length and in layers. I have tried braid sets and they do work sometimes but dont last. I want that curly fro you see everywere ,like the natural sister on Half and Half. Thank you again for your help.

Exactly what kind of "natural" style are you trying to get?

Is it healthy to wet your hair every day? I've been trying to get a natural style without cutting the perm out of my hair.I tried a straw set once and came out looking like shirly temple and washed it out in 3 days ( it was expensive too!) The only thing that I found that comes close to the look i want is wetting my hair then scrunching it with wrapping lotion and grease then letting it air dry (it does feel dry though i only use very little grease), am i hurting my hair? Is their some kind of product i can use to get the look?

Thanx in  advance
