Hi there!
I agree with Metalgirl that the beauty school may not be the way to
go. The prices you quoted are very low, and I'm afraid that you
might just end up with a rat's nest instead of the long hair you
wanted. $20 for hair is extremely cheap (especially if it's human
hair). Be aware that cheap human hair (and sometimes even
expensive HH) is very tangle-prone.
Please do a lot of reading before subjecting your hair to this.

You can always do the trick that I did when I was lifeguarding and
trying to grow my hair out. Soak your hair in conditioner and put
it ina bun so that you have a protective layer in case you end up in
the water.
I think you will find a lot of useful info archived under the Extensions 101 thread at the top of the board.
If done properly, extensions should not ruin your hair. I would not go to a beauty school for extensions, though. You want an experienced person to perform this service for you, not someone who's just learning and may damage your hair.
Chlorine is harsh on both natural hair and extension hair, and will tend to make extension hair (that's usually already highly processed) dry out more quickly. Of your you can try to counteract this with washing and conditioning immediately after you get out of the pool.
Hi! I'm new to hair extensions and I'm kinda worried. I found this great deal by a beauty school that does it for $25 the first hour, and $10 after that. She said she would do the glue, so it would only be like $45 or around that. I can get hair for $20, although it only stays in for 3 weeks, but still to me that's a steal because I'm a little poor.
I want to know, do extensions damage my real hair? How do the extensions end up comming out, just fall out? I read I can swim in a pool as long as I wash my hair immediately after, which is important because I'm a lifeguard..I work at a pool, so I need it to be able to be okay in Chlorine, although I won't get into the water everyday! Please tell me some safe tips so I know what I'm doing and don't ruin my hair! And what kind of brand of hair should I get? I know nothing! Thanks!
