I don't put it that tight. I was more worried about the fact that I am almost forcing my hair to be wavy 5 days outta 7, and then I wash it and it goes straight.
straight-wavy-straight-wavy .... ya know?

my hair sometimes gives me headache! when i tie it up!

Goodness no way....: uncomfortable and I`d be a laughing stock.
Heh, thanks anyways.

Sounds pretty safe to me. Besides lots of people braid for sleeping. Some will even braid damp and let it dry while they sleep so they have the waves in the morning.

I haven`t done that with my own hair but I used to practise braiding on my mannikin heads in cosmetology school and then a day or two later I`d take them down and the waves would stay in until the next time I rinsed them.

However chances are i will be going back to my old job this week which was a gear factory which isn`t much different than your environment with the machines and oils floating around.

My hair is mid back so it either gets tailed or stuffed under a hat.

It would depend on how much you are pulling on the roots. If it feels like the braid is pulling your hair out then it`s too tight.

Really tight braids are worse than ponytails. Then again any tight style is worse than one that is moreloose.

In other words, don`t pull it so tight that it hurts or gives headaches.

Ok... all this talk of leaving your hair in a ponytail for too long is not good.... what about a braid?
I am a mechanic and braid my hair at least 5 days out of 7 .... all day and night, sometimes do not rebraid it the next day cuz it still looks acceptable (what do I care, I`m in a garage)... Is fairly-tight braiding bad for the hair?
