I think using a differnt shampoo and conditioner should be ok.  I bring my own to the beauty shop when I get relaxers done (I do not use the ones that are meant to go with the brand of relaxer they use).  But, if you are unsure or have any doubts whatsoever, then I would stick with the products that go together (same brand) as they are designed to work together and usually claim to give optimal results that way.

As for a reconstructor, I don't know.  I think the last time I was relaxed they used one and it was a completely different brand.  It also did not require heat (was like a thick herbal conditioner).

Is it a bad idea if i use an optimum relaxer but use affirm's neutralizing shampoo, reconstructor and conditioner instead of using optimum's shampoo and cond. I know a few who use a different shampoo and cond. with there relaxer.
