Bringing a photo may be a little weird (especially if you don't really like the person you're bringing a photo of) but it really is the best way to make sure they understand what you want.  Different words mean different things to different people (especially when it comes to hair).

I hate jesse mccartney, but he's got good hair.  How do I ask for something like this besides giving them a photo, which is a little weird imo.  btw, My hair should be long enough for something like this.
