Well wearing natural hair is good but alot of people believe that it should be treated rough because of the way it looks. Our hair is very fragile, just as any hair type and wearing TIGHT BRAIDS can pull your hair line back. That's probably what your friend means...it is ok to wear cornrows but not so tight. Anything tight can pull the hair out of the skin and eventualy wear your hair out. So you always need to give your hair a rest. If someone is braiding too tight, always tell them they are and ask them to loosen. If they can't do that then you need to get your money back and get the hell up out of there.
An example of too tight braids and I have seen lots of guys like this is Omarions hair line. I asked my cousin and a few other friends if they shaved their hairline to look like Omarions and they said no, they just wear braids alot (real tight cause they think it will help it grow, which it wont) and their hairline eventually ended up like that. So it can happen...but there are ways to avoid it.
Natural braids are good for African American women and men. Braids originated IN Africa. No Natural Braids will not pull you hair line back.
FAKE braids Will damage your hair. My ex girlfriend wore Fake braids all the time. When she took them out, her hair had bald spots and her hair line was messed up too. Stay away from FAKE, be natural, it's good for you. Foreget what white America defines as Good Looking, Cosmo don't know jack about Africa.
For some reason some people think having fake hair is the way to go. NOT! I sell hair care product all day everyday. I hate to admitt it, but a lot of the customers looking for hair growth vitamins are African American women. This is because of perms to straighten the hair, or Fakehairthat damages the hair. We have to learn how to be natural and still look good. Black men like natural hair, every one else likes Fake. Why? Because they are trying to look like white people or trying to be like those video hoes. My woman is beautiful without fake hair. I encourage her to be natural and BUMP what Alicia Keys and Maria "MIMI" Karry look like. They look ok, but Jill Scott got it going on too. Soul Sisters got it going on.

i no that this is kind of off topic but i was going to get braids a while back until i had learned a bit later that they eventually would pull your hairline back, this is y i decided to not get braids but is there any truth to this?

just take him to the barber shop and tell the barber to give your son a fade (sides lighter than the top) or light or dark ceaser (all even). make sure you tell the barber not to push his hairline back. since this is his 1st haircut, he still has baby hair. pushing it back can mess his hairline up. don't be scared to get it lined up just tell the barber to be careful. also, coming from a barber, while he is cutting your sons hair, have a seat and relax. if your son wants you to stand next to him just keep him calm. we barbers hate when parents point out things while we are cutting.

Cut it or braid it. Just give him a fair chance not to be stereotyped. By the way I have a 12 year daughter and a 7 year old sonthatI father with pride.

It's time to cut his hair fear or no fear. He's getting older and will soon start looking like a female if his hair is so long that you have to put it in a pony tail. NOT!

No I don't think there are any guys here with braids. Most of the guys here have a short hair cut with waves. The short hair cut is called a Light or dark Cesear. To tell you the truth, braids look good on black man but it also carries a negative stigma to people who don't know much about African American culture. So I would suggest wearing it in a short cut with waves.It is easier to manage and you don't have to worry about your son being labled a "thug" or hiphopper at an early age. Believe when I tell you about young black men and negative stereotypes, I'm a sociology major and a graduating senior. If a Black male is labeled as thug at an early age in school, this label will follow him from grade to grade. I wore braids for a while as an adult until I notice no one would hire me on a job because of them. The people that hire are also the people that use negative stereotypes against Black MEN. They don't respect our culture so they want us to conform to their culture. It's not the easiest thing to do but we are not accepted by society anymore.

I am a mother of a 5yr old who has braidable hair only. Are there any guys in here with braids???
I am using Carrot Creme on his hair it's not greasy and makes his hair managable when he takes the braids out....any other suggestions?
I'm scared to get my son's hair shaped-up..What is the best way for him and me? I was thinking pf putting it in a ponytail like the men but this would be his first cut is that okay??
