yeah i just started waving again after 7 yrs. not new to the wave game. we just wasn't using all the products that are being used now. never checked if a brush was boar bristles, we just called it a wave brush. but if grimmz has starter waves like me, then i was sort of right. i see what you're saying though. if i keep brushing, the naps will be trained. after 2 weeks my hair gets kind of nappy even though i can still see the wave pattern. thanks buddy.

don't worry your waves are still there. if your hair is
like mine (super thick & nappy), your waves are under the naps. if
you've been brushing faithfully, watch when you cut it. your waves will
be like boom.
your waves are under the naps ok buddy,
you probably just got starter waves, just a lil slight pattern thats
why yours fade away and the naps is whats visible.
that means you need to brush more, even if you have the nappiest hair
you can get rid of them by brushing. My hair was real nappy b4 i got
waves an i would have to cut my hair every 2weeks to a #1=1/16th, now i
can go almost 2 months without a cut and my waves still look good, very
visible and deep and don't look nappy at all.
brushing gets the naps out, not brushing enough is like BEBE'S KIDS=THEY DON'T DIE THEY JUST MULTIPLY.......lol

You shouldn't be losing waves when growing your hair out if your still brushing while doing it. Maybe the waves you have are not fully developed yet.
A few suggestions.
1. Brush more.
2. If you using a soft brush then switch to a medium or hard brush.
3. Du-rag your hair longer
4. Or just geta haircut.
