Wella Color Charm Question

"My hair is about a level 6-7 reddish muddy brown color."

What color do you want to end up with?  I'd stick with the level you are at right now.  I know that when you tone "or refresh" hair on the ends, especially if it's dry you are supposed to use a color that is one shade lighter than the color you apply at the roots. 

Okay so let's stick with that level, about a 7.  What is your virgin hair color?  Are you willing to try a different brand of hair color? 

Miss Clairol makes a color that just might do it for you if you are certain you have red. 

Moongold (check the swatch out at Sally's and try to imagine what it will look like over your color now) is a level medium blonde, but since your hair is so porous, this color might not be too dark for you.  I'd strand test it with 20 vol peroxide and see what it looks like.  If you have a Sally's near by I'd get your supplies there.

Also you could try putting a demi I'd recommend L'Oreal's color gems in a neutral level 8 blonde color.  They come with their own developer. 

The reason why I'm suggesting using such light colors is that your hair being so porous will grab the color and make it appear much darker. 

Another thing you need to do is get a neutral protein filler and treat your hair with that PRIOR to putting any more color on the hair. 

Anyway, good luck and I hope this helps.  PLEASE STRAND test these colors first to see what will happen.  I cannot see and feel your hair and I'm not a professional with TONS of experience so make sure you experiment first prior to doing the entire head.  OKAY? I have had a lot of success with coloring my own hair though and I know it's possible to do a professional job at home with the right knowledge.

Is your hair already colored?  If so what color did you use? What color (level and tone) is your hair now? 

If not the wella color charm med ash brown is just an ash base, unless you add the drabber to it.  Ash usually means, blue or green.  If you wanted in between a light and med ash brown you could mix the light drab brown with the med ash brown to get something in between.

Clairol also has two green based dyes, moonhaze (the drabbest) and moongold, that you could try.  I'm not sure what has been done to your hair and how damaged or porous it is.  If you hair is very porous you may just want to stick with a lighter color and also use a demi or a semi.  Just a thought!
