QuoteReplyTopic: Bleached Blonde went dark...wanna go back Posted: December 01 2005 at 5:12pm
It's been two weeks and my hair has lightened some but it's just not
me! So today I'm going back. My hairstylist has suggested
highlights. I'm thinking I wanna go lighter all over then add
highlights. I'll let you know how it goes.
Well, let me say that I'm not a pro so I can't say which road you
should take. I would ask the colorist since she can actually see
what color is where in your hair and whether it is too damaged or not
(I would guess its probably not too damaged since she didn't sound
worried about adding more to fix it later) Getting a few
highlights to give it the appearance of being a lighter may be less
damaging (to less of your hair) than an all over bleach job, but I'd
discuss it with her since she can see where you're at.
Good luck.

Thanks for the response Susan....I've been washing it with Head &
Shoulders and actually the gray is disappearing some. Now it's
just brown, which I don't really like either. I'm going to keep
it this way for a few weeks but I want to go lighter. Should I
just get lots of highlights or start over with a lighter bleach
job? I'll try to remember to take a picture when I get home so
you can see where I'm at... I miss being blonde!! Thanks!
She's probably going to have to dye over the gray parts again with
something a little redder (brown with a red base maybe). I would
ask her if she would fix it, since I don't think she should have let
you walk out of there with hair that looked gray. To go dark from
white blonde, they usually have to either use some sort of protein
filler, or dye it twice with opposing base colors to get something that
looks natural. It sounds like she either didn't use a filler, or
didn't dye it a second time.

I apologize in advance for my novel here but I want some advice...So
here's my dilemma. I have been bleaching my hair for years
(usually with Loreal #9.5 NB) and at the beginning of this year I
decided I wanted to go natural (which would be a medium brown) so I
could have long healthy hair. I let my roots grow for a couple of
months then went to a salon and had hilights and low lights put in my
hair to help conceal the growing out process. I loved it! I
let my hair grow until last Wed. (from April16 to Nov 16 - 7
months). The roots were pretty dark underneath but I still had
this top layer of blonde that I just wanted to get rid of. My
hairdresser said I should color all over close to my natural color then
get some blonde highlights. I trusted her so that's what we
did. I did not like it when the color was dry - it looked like a
dark gray where the blonde used to be. It actually looks ok
(although darker than I want) where the new growth was but what you
mostly see is the top, sides, and back where the old blonde bleached
hair has turned gray. I don't feel pretty anymore...is that
silly? I don't have to be bleached blonde but I want a light
shiny brown or dark blonde color that looks healthy. What's my
next step? I do trust my hairdresser...she says "you can always
fix color" but I want to have a hold on what should happen before I go
in. My main concern is doing the least amount of damage since I
want my hair to grow long. Any suggestions??
