hi chick, what i would suggest is try every salon you can for a job, its a good time to be looking with it being near to xmas, salons are at their busiest!! You could explain everything you have told us to them and maybe ask if they would take you on on a three month trial to see how you go and get back into college,  its the only way to get fully qualified and it does really count!! ive been hairdressing for 21 years am fully qualified to city and guilds level 3 and have over the years done lots of courses to keep me up to date and i have NEVER been without a job. Honestly chick it IS worth it in the end!! keep smiling chick xx

is there a state board you could contact? i dont know the rules of your country- however, there must be some governing board out there that could possibly direct you-

how many hrs of study do u need- here in cal. we need 1600 hours of study and hands on training.

keep staying positive things will work out for you- and i agree, dont trow away two yrs of schooling.

Bringing beauty, one head at a time...

Hello Kate,

That is a horrible thing to happen, I imagine you must feel a mixture of tears and anger. I think they are being very unfair to you.

Now, when I did my hairdressing training it was a series of different 'tasks' that had to be ticked off by my tutor and once all of the required units were complete, we gained the qualification in that level, working our way from L1 to L2 to L3.

So, do you have all of your units for L1 or hopefully L2 after two years checked off? You could get employment quite easily with L2 complete (a college collegue went from salon junior to senior stylist at a well-known salon in about 6 months with her L2 training under her belt).

Are they focusing the reference on your absenteeism or other factors? Is there an alternative college you could attend? Do you have your NVQ folder, as this will be invaluable if you intend to finish the course elsewhere.

I know it feels awful today. But you musn't give up. You cannot throw away two years of study and effort. I feel for you, its frustrating.

Basicallyy as many of you know i was training to be a hairdreser, it was acombined course that would qualify me as L3 skilled.  WELL. Will FOUR months of the course to go, they have KICKED ME OFF.
I Was very ill last year and had some reccuring problems with it this year and they have decided i have had to much time off ( despite doctors notes) to continue with the course.

I have also found out that a lot of hair salons have been rining my college to ask for references and because of my absense they have given me bad ones!

They said to me that i can actually come back AFTER Xmas IF i get a job in a salon by then, but how am i meant to do that, when they are giving me bad references?!

Now, i am left in a bad situaion, basically the last 2 years of my training have been thrown away for me.  There is NO WAY i am going back to that college to train, after what they have done to me, i now have to probably start again from scratch somehwere else.
