try getting your hair stylist to thin it out with thinning shears... as
for hair products, I don't think anything can make your hair thinner
than it is unless you thin it out with scissors in some way ( do not
try to thin it out by yourself though please). But if you are using a
heavy conditioner, if any at all, then you might try a clarifying
shampoo or a vinegar rinse to get rid of all the build up. Info about
clarifying can be found here. You might also find out if the conditioner you are using has silicones it it... info about this can be found here.
If you are on the "cones" it might be making your hair a little thicker
since it coats the hair. Also, you might try looking at the
straight hair board to find out about products that work well for curly
hair.
And lastly... on the black hair thing.... I recently died my hair black
from a dark brown color.... and I ended up not liking it. There is a
bigger difference between the darkest brown and black than you would
think. and if you don't like it... you have to bleach out the color to
fix it and it's a big hassel... then again maybe you will just shave it
off since you can. but anyways... if you
wanna do it go for it, but just do it with caution, especially if you
wanna grow out your hair. If you dye it lighter, you can always dye it
darker later... but color can't lift color, and take it from someone
who knows, having bleach damaged hair sucks.

How long are you talking? If you want very long, visit the long
hair support forum here for lots of info. You are NOT the only guy here
so welcome to the boards!
Why not leave your hair's texture as it is? Curly hair looks just
as nice long as straight does. I don't know of a shampoo that
will make your hair straight. You can do a chemical straightener
(have it done at a salon), but those are very damaging to hair, and
growing it very long after that is much more challenging.
I don't know how curly your hair is, so you can also try straightening
it by setting it wet. Wet it, then put it as straight as you can
get it (in a ponytail if its long enough), or under a hat, and leave it
until it dries. If its very curly, this might not do much, if its
wavy, that might be enough to straighten it (but still, I bet it looks
nicer in its natural state!).
