those irons are really bad for your hair, they will literally destroy it, make sure to invest in a good flat iron 100%ceramic if it heats up to 410 that should do the trick, to make it easier you should learn to blow dry your hair first with a round brush and a good blow dryer and then run the flat iron through ure hair, invest in quality products for your hair, their definatly worth it!

ceramic straightners are okay for your hair, ive always used a chia iron from the salons and like kindofcurly said be sure to use a hair protectant on your hair it will help keep the heat from damaging your hair so bad,,, try biosilk silk therepy   it has helped me alot

What does a heat protectant do for my hair?

It protects it from the heat and therefore prevents damage. If you don't use a heat protecting spray before blowdrying/straightening, your hair will end up a burnt, frizzy mess!

DANGER! I drive like you do.

That type of iron is not meant for hair and would be very bad for it.  Buy a good quality straightening iron like the ones Porpoise mentioned.  They get way hot and will definitely get any type of hair straight, and plus they are ceramic and are much better for the hair.  I use the Maxiglide and it gets my curly hair pin straight.

Very bad. If you are going to straighten your hair, either use a round brush and a blow dryer or use a flat iron. If you use a flat iron, I would recommend you get a good one like the GHD, CHI or Sedu. They cost a lot, but they are much better for your hair. GHD, CHI, and SEDU get way hot! Always use a heat protectant spray before blow drying and or flat ironing.

Does using an iron (like this) hurt my hair? My friend used an iron like that on my hair and it turned really well. Using a regular straightener left me with waves rather than really straight hair.

Are there any straighteners that get as hot as clothes irons?

Emo hair!
