I agree wtih you there. I had a salon give me some very brassy ugly highlights once. I do my own hair too, I messed it up three times but the fourth time I got an absolutely gorgeous color.

You say your hair is mushy CherryB?  That's a sign of over-processing.  Don't touch your hair with chemicals any time soon.  Treat your hair to intensive conditioning treatments to make it more managable, get a good trim...take exceptional care of it!

Sorry to read about what happened to your hair.

I don't go to salons because I'd rather mess up my own hair than someone else do it

At least is was last year, I had a similar but even worse experience today and my head is currently itchy and my hair has not been corrected, it used to be a gorgeous shade of blonde (compliments constantly) now it's mushy, mousey, pinkish orange with neon bright orange roots.  The girl I've been going to for 6 years decided to try something new without asking me.

okay this was about a year ago when I was constantly dying my hair black, so one time I didn't feel like dying it myself, so I went to Fantastic Sams - big mistake by the way. Well anyways I told the lady that I just wanted her to touch up my roots. I can not believe what this lady did. She mixed the black color, applied it to my roots then she put me under the heater / dryer. And I thought to myself,, why is she putting me under the heater when we are not lifting my hair but we are darkining it ? so I just kept quite til she washed my hair out, and my roots were dark brown with gold tones. What the f**k was this ? So I looked in the mirror and told her my roots are not black , so she decided to re dye it black and I let her , and then finally after applying the color all over my scalp couldn't handle it anymore , it felt numb and itchy it was so terrible, that is by far the worst experience I have ever had. OMG and then at the end I told her there was no way I was gonna pay her , hell no.

"My mom always told me when I was young - " don't dye your hair it's like tatoos once you start you can never stop". And she was right". - Naomi Watts
