I was just blowing the dust off my 1940s sewing machine when I read your posts! I love the idea of overstiching in the middle of the weft and sewing through the weft on both ends. I found that it is not even necessary to pierce the middle of the wefts when overstiching...the tightness of the stich hold the wefts together. But, I decided to start over so I can overstich through the weft just in case they were to *god forbid* come undone.
I never even realized that my horrible, cheap clip-in extensions that I was wearing were folded over and would equal about 2 wefts of hand-tied. Also, I had purchased some clips to use with the wefts, and I have found that unless the clips have holes right at the top, you really can't use them with hand-tied extensions...unless, you overstich at the top of the clip (which is what I had to do because I got the wrong clips).
If you guys have any other time-saving advice for installing hand-tied wefts onto tracks and onto clips...I'm all ears!
I hand sew hand tied wefts all the time. You can either use a sharp needle that will pierce through the very thin hand tied weft top or use a blanket stitch. (I think that's what it's called- it's an overcasting stitch)
I usually have my needle to through all the wefts at the beginning and ending of the track, and then use the overcasting stitch in the middle.
I have also use the sewing machine to zig zag stitch the hand tieds together too.
i did that once, its so easy, just line them up and sewe- make sure the stitck goes over the wefts, like instead of a ------ stitch, make it ))))))) like that, hope that makes sense to u

I can see that having a sewing machine would make layering a few wefts of the hand-tied variety easier.
My sewing machine is not being cooperative. Has anyone been brave enough to hand-sew hand-tied wefts? Any tips?
I was after a smoother look, as I am accustomed to the machine wefts. I guess I was not prepared for just how thin the hand-tied is....if I can find a way to sew them together successfully, I'll be the happiest lady ever!
Also, for sewing on wefts onto a track, is it easier to sew all the wefts together first (if I want more voume per track), or is it easier to just continue sewing on wefts one by one, until the right volume is achieved?
