QuoteReplyTopic: why isnt this used in blk salons? Posted: January 21 2006 at 6:40pm
My hairdresser used to blow dry my hair straight with a large brush...before I got a texturizer. She would blow dry first, and then flat iron it. It looked just like a relaxer!!!
Keep in mind that (especially if you have course hair) it takes a LOT of heat to blow dry natural hair straight.

Maybe you can request your stylist to use that method for you. Many AA people think that certain methods are done for only "white hair" so it may not come to mind that you would want your hair done with a paddle brush.

the method isnt used more because the hair stylists dont wanna be sued. they cant go around carrying a round hair brush to use that on some people's hair. if i saw a brush near my hair, i would run! it just isnt meant for everyone

I use the round brush everytime I blow dry, and I picked up this method from my stylist. After I use the round brush I do go back over my roots with the comb attachment.

I uesd a round brush for my blow-outs for years, I don't remember how many, let's just say until my brush fell apart-LOL! What I did was detangle first with my leave-in and a wide tooth comb and then blow one SMALL section at a time. I don't use a round brush anymore because 1: that whole brush-breaking thing , 2: a wide, flat paddle brush dries my hair much faster, and 3: Since I flat iron I can bump my ends under with that so I don't need to spend the extra time with the blow out.
Thats interesting though! I've never seen kinky types doing the round brush method and I know I couldn't pull it off. Not with newgrowth. Now I do blowdry and comb separately as I go down (the teeth on the comb attachment are too small so I use a wide comb). A brush would pull too much hair out for me.
I didn't say that it can't get straightened by a blow out... I said that it doesn't get straightened easily. If you really go at it HARD then maybe you will get the results that you're looking for. It's less damaging and much easier to straighten the hair out in some fashion before you attempt a blowout on kinky hair imo.
the round brush blowdryer method it would get your hair done quicker and when i see it done on ppl on tv thier hair seems to be fuller and have more bounce is there a reason why this method isnt used more in blk hair salons.....oh yeah how do you use this method at home i have a round brush and i cant get my hair straight using this method what am i doing wrong
