I recently trimmed too short the shoe lace tip of several HairLOC bundles. I need to re-tip them. Does anyone know where I can acquire the tipping material that is used to create the shoe lace tips on the hairlocs ? I look forward to your reply.
I have two different assistants that i pay hourly-$50 per hr minim. they do maintance with me, set up, heat and spin etc. They are both certified with Hairlocs and have also taken my coaching classes. Some of my clients do not want anyone else to touch their hair at all. i do All new installs myself. If i do maintance alone, it takes me about 1 1/2 hrs for full head-200 strands with help it cuts time down some.
feel free to either call or pm me i can share further with you. i have a few clients that come up from San Diego and would love to be able to refer for maintance to you.
I'm getting to the point of ordering in large quantities. Just this week alone I've had 4 new installs and a lot of maintenance. Each day there are more and more. I was starting to get stressed b/c I really want to provide the best for my clients and it is embarrassing when things go wrong. I ordered the pro-shells and lush hair. I'm anxiously waiting for them.
Tangles, I'm in San Diego. I would love to find out more about your supplies. Another question, do you do all the maintenance or do you have help? I have one assistant that keeps me organizes when I'm applying. (saves so much time) The problem I'm having is there isn't enough time in the day sometimes to get everyone in. A new install usually takes me 2-3 hours and it's the same for maintenance. Do you charge hourly or by the job? Do you client's mind if someone else does the maintenance?
I have so many other questions but I need to prep for a long Saturday. Thank you so much again. I can't express my gratefulness enough to you all.
i can totally understand and agree with everything u stated about the quality and customer srvc. I have been doing hairlocs for about 4yrs plus now. Full time.
first off- my findings are ALL locs espicially the dark DO chip the color off. with that said- i would suggust u try the shrinkies protubes- they work really good and are a nice tight fit. She is a awesome person to deal with too. the tubes dont chip as fast.
her name is Amm, she is also carrying lush hair which i really like and another line which is the same line like Metal suggusted, Extensions Plus- they are pretipped however the tips are awesome, i can do at least one maintance without heat and spinning the tips.
Extensions Plus is no longer carrying that line they are actually discontinuing their pretipped line,(they said they had a falling out with their distrbutor, they sent me some new samples to try out and i did not like the quality nor the tips.
at this point, your best bet is to use either hair from shrinkies.net
or also can try hair from short2long- i think thats the name, Metal has used them and likes them too.
i have my locs made to my specs now and order tons of them to have them on hand. I do about 3-5 full head installs a week plus maintance about 3 a day.
i HAVE to have suppplies- shells and hair avail. to me at all times.
feel free to call me and we can chat if u need some help right away.
Might I add-- as you know the hairlocs technique itself is still a great method for alot of people. When installed correctly with quality products, its a fabulous method. You just have to find a consistent supplier! The shrinkies are a nice alternative for some...and would be nice to add to your services offered. But dont give up on the Hairlocs...you will find that MANY prefer them over dealing with the residue issue upon removal of shrinks. Just my opinion.

OMGoodness! Welcome to the woes of Hairlocs customer service- and product quality! I, too am a certified Hairlocs tech and experienced the same things-- which is why I am no longer installing them. They are NOTORIOUS for switching suppliers...so you never know what you're gonna get. Most of the time, the hair is great...then suddenly, it's fooey for a shipment or two. The rings- they have changed materials a few times and the pre-tip material has changed a few times too. And they will ALWAYS have BS excuses for you. The company went through an ownership change at one point....then has steadily gone downhill. But there is hope! You will find here a wealth of info and quality sources in which to buy hair and supplies ( see above) .....so dont fret! Welcome to the board!
I had been thinking about taking that class at one point but took
the Mark Barrington class instead for shrink links. They use
Extensions Plus hair.
I think you may want to look into pro tubes (2.5mm & 3mm
sizes) usually come in 5 different colors. Also Extenshells
( 2.5mm & 3mm sizes) usually come in 3-4 different colors. Or
you may want to try silicone microrings (1.5mm,2mm & 2.6mm
inner diameter sizes) usually come in 4 different colors. Best
adhesive lined shrinkies are the premium ones. You can see
all these 4 products on http://www.shrinkies.net or
do an internet search for these products. You will find Elite hair
there too which is great quality and Indian Remy hair.
If you want to buy tubes, rings, shells in large quantities you
may want to order direct from overseas and have them custom
made to your specs. You will have to order at least 3,000 –
60,000per color/size to have them custom made for you.
I also use Mark Barrington Shrink Links, which I love, but you
have to attend Marks class to be able to purchase his products
($1175 class price). Their shrink links cost $34.95 per 300.
If you are looking for very high end hair then you may want to
look into http://www.Extensions-plus.com European
hair. Cost starts from about $150+ per ounce or you may want
to order Russian hair http://www.Russianhair.net (very expensive but very nice hair in wefts & bulk). You
can always order from Russia direct but have to buy per kilo
and it usually only comes in bulk, so you would have to pre-tip
yourself, not to mention pulling out any grey hairs. Ordering
direct is great quality but you have to clean it up a bit first.
Ordering Indian hair direct is a little more work…because you
have to clean, remove greys and the nits (egg shells) yourself
from the wefts.
It all depends on how much time you have to spend cleaning,
sorting and prepping hair…if you don’t then stick to buying hair
ready to install. Direct sourcing is only for those who have the
cash and the time to clean, sort and pre-tip themselves.
Good Luck!!
links are working now...

Hello and welcome! "Tangles RC" is very knowledgeable on hairlocs. Her site is www.hairlocs.info, and she posts here often....she will likely respond to your question soon! Good luck and share with us your findings!
I'm a newbie to this forum and I'm so thankful to find everyone. I don't feel so alone anymore. I have been reading post into the wee hours of the night to catch up.
My Background: Prof. Hairstylist 10 yrs. Extensions 2 yrs. (w/HairLocs)
Heres my delima. Up till now I have been somewhat satisfied with Hairlocs. I haven't done anything else to know better. Over the past 4-5 months I have really had a problem with the Loc's paint coming off. Some of my clients came back as soon as 3 weeks with shinny copper locs with no paint. I have been switching them out free of charge (its not their fault) and it is really starting to get old. There has also been alot of slipping out lately on many clients and I havent changed a thing. I contacted Hairlocs and their explantions varied from client's ph balence, acidity of their skin, using inproper products, even water. Personally I think its a load of you know what. I was told that the recent "batch" was manufacted by someone diffrent. ( I think they got cheap & trying to cut cost) Anyways I sent all the bad locs I removed back to them and asked for and exchange. Guess what? They do not stand behind thier products.
I'm despertly looking for diffrent locs even looking into shrinkies. I'm hoping that shrinkies will be best for my clients w/ slick hair. I would also like to find hair that is comprable to thiers. I have been happy with the hair so far. (when they get the orders right) Like I said before I don't know anything else. There might even be better hair out there.
I hope someone has some good advice to give to a fellow sister in need.
