QuoteReplyTopic: HELP...weft is too dark...can I color? Posted: January 30 2006 at 4:51pm
Thanks Tangles and everyone!
I am going to try and take the Glamour Hair(french refined) darker... or try to make it redder....I also changed my color I am getting from shrinkies.net.(elite remy)....I emailed Anna and she was of great help and sent me better pics of the colors I was getting and the one I exchanged it for...she even put the # 22 in the middle of the two colors so I could see what it looked like. She also just happened to have the exchange color in stock so I don't have to wait another 2 weeks....and she sending it out priority mail! Now that is good customer service!!
Thanks,
JeepGirl
Current install-Bohyme Bodywave #30 and #14 in the straight hair/ they didn't have the #14 in bodywave, so I mixed them...works great!
get some bleach- professional if u can or some from the beauty supply- get 30 vol devep- mix to a creamy texture- like pudding.
take a small section, lay foil underneath it
use a brush and paint it on, covering the entire test piece.
wrap the foil around it.
let it process and watch it every five minutes. when it reaches the color u are wanting , shampoo and condition and dry. Keep track of how long it takes so IF it does work, you will know how long for the rest of it.
Bringing beauty, one head at a time...

So what is my safest way to go? Do a test strand first....then going from a brownishred to more of an auburn lighter red.... do you think it might be possible? I just want to do the best method possible in order to achieve that look. Please someone be specific with the how to do....I won't hold you responsible if I mess up my test strip..lol!!
Thanks,

Glamour Hair responded and basically said the same thing...dont use peroxide....but maybe a color conditioner or temporary color. What is a color conditioner and where do you get it....is it a permanent color?
I don't want a temporary color as I am mixing it with the elite weft from shrinkies. Does anyone else carry a french refined in better red/copper tones? I think this Glamour Hair is going to be of great quality but just not much in the color choices. Now i'm stuck with this hair that is more brown than copper red or strawberry red. I bought the lush hair in the #27 and #30 and it was perfect...but I don't want that type of hair....I want the weft curly hair, as I am letting this straightner grow out and go back to my naturally curly hair. I am adding the elite body wave weft also to add some straighter pieces so it isn't all curly and wild....shrinkies just reived my hair Friday and suggested that maybe they could trade it out for another color to try and match my Glamour "brown #8" hair that they say is #30 medium auburn.....not even close.
Sooooo if I can't fix this Glamour hair.....it is a wasted $160.00....and it really pretty french refined curly hair. I so want to use it but have no idea what to match it with and.......I am a RED HEAD by nature with the freckles and everything.......so a lot of colors don't work for me. AHHHHHHHHHGGGGGGGGG........stressssssssssssed OUT over this hair!
Lightening the hair (which also means making hair 'redder') is always tricky business.
I have taken some of my #2 wefts, and used a intense high lift tint to make vivid red-violet highlights, but that is the only time I have tried to lighten hair, and certainly not the whole weft, but a few highlights.
Wefted hair is already processed, so putting on more ammonia and peroxide is a risk. Also, much of the hair is pre-colored, and since a tint will not lift a tint, is is possible that you can't get the lift you want without bleaching and toning the hair.
If you try it, of course do a strand test first.

What brand of color did you use and where did ou get it? i would rather use the same brand as you if you have had luck with coloring. This hair is more in the general #8 range and not anywhere close to my red hair. Do you think it will go from that color to a red?

I've had no problems making mine darker. But I don't know if I would
lighten them if I were you. I haven't tried, but I've always heard it
damages the hair. So I've never tried.

I colored my Elite Remy wefts (I think thats what you got also?), I got #16 color, but they were too light, so I did permanent color with Natural Ash brown for 45 minutes, and now it matches perfectly...the only thing I dont like it is that it takes work, and I like to do things immediately...
I also got #6 which was too red for me, and tried to do the same thing, but its still too red (I'm very ashy)...

I just received my Glamour french refined hair....and it is just gorgeous! BUTTTTTT.....the color is too dark, I ordered a #30 medium red...but I am wanting more of a copper red. Anyone know if this hair can be colored or not and if so what would you suggestions be for a DIYer going to sally's?
Also can the Elite Remy be colored? I've emailed both sites but haven't heard back yet...just thought I would try to get a head start.
