It's good that you like it.  Mine would have been more acceptable after colour removing if I didn't have light blonde roots with the brown :D  DAMN MY ROOTS!

I seriously don't know why I was born with such bright golden locks, it doesn't even suit me!

Thank you both for your advice. I just used Colrfix and the dark color came out.  I only left the colorfix on for 20 minutes, and the last 5 of that I added heat.  IT came the bulk of my hair is probably around a level 5-6.  The top is a tad "brassy" but I can deal with that.  I'm not sure if I'll re-dye as I kind f like the color, but we'll see how it looks in a fews days.

I definatly recomend colorfix.

Thanks for any advice

1.) High Lift Series are typically for hair color that is level 6 or higher. If your hair is darker than that putting a High Lift Series on will only expose the underlying pigment of your hair which could result in a hideous red or brassy orange....DON'T DO IT! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

2.) I've never used Colorfix I'm sorry I can't help you there. As a HairStylist if you were my client I would try color remover to get that dark color out of your hair.

3.) Credible beauty schools...YES they are out there. Check to see if the beauty schools have a master colorist on hand and ask for their credentials...what salon do they work in if they currently work in the industry. Chances are if a master colorist is truly a master they won't be teaching full time at a school as they can make 10X more money in a salon doing professional services but the school I went to had a master colorist on hand for one day a week and she was amazing and I owe alot of what I know today because of her.

4.) If you can't find a master colorist at a beauty school look for a credible master colorist at a well known area salon. You will pay BIG BUCK$ for the corrective service probably somewhere between $125-$175 but if your hair is worth it to you then you've just justified spending that money.

It's so hard to give the proper advice to you without actually seeing your hair, it's condition and what you are trying to achieve as far as a final color. You can't lighten previously colored hair with color it just goes against all the laws of haircolor. The end result would be only darker than the previously colored hair. You will need to either use color remover to try and get that color out or bleach the hair then tone it. If your only going up 2 levels I don't think the process would be too devastating on your hair but I can't make that determination without seeing and feeling your hair to get a better idea of the condition of your hair.

G'luck

Hi,
I'm in the same situation - however, my hair is mega porous....so it isn't so easy for me...anyway...

By far the easiest way to solve the problem is to use Colorfix...see how it turns out.  It'll be lighter but probably brassy, so the you need to use an light ash brown dye to get rid of some of the brassiness.  Always strand test before you do anything.

If your hair goes dark after dyeng again because it's too porous...well, that's where i am ...good luck

So long story short I dyed my hair and it came out too dark. I'm looking a little Goth, and that doesn't look good on me. So I need some advice.

My hair has been previously dyed, the color I dyed over was Socolor level 5. The color I'm trying to get rid of is Clairol Ultress 2NR dark mahogany brown. I have tried most of the home remedies including; dandruff shampoo, Dawn dish liquid, baking soda, a protein pack, mixing a 40 vol developer with shampoo, and Prell. The baking soda has worked the best, but it's nothing to write home about.

I have called around to salons to see if this can be fixed, however most of them say ALL the color must be stripped out of my hair. Which doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, because I only want it two shades or so lighter. I'm aiming for right around a level 4, but a 5 would be even better.

On to the questions

1. can I buy a high lift dye ( yes I hear you all now, dye doesn't lift dye, but isn't high lift for dying dark hair lighter? They say the lift about 2-3 shades.) at Sallys that will do anything?

1a. or a regular dye with a 30 or 40 vol delvloper?

2. will something like Colorfix be able to just take me up a few levels? or will I end up with orange hair? and have to redye?

3. how do you feel about going to a beauty school to have this done?

4. any other ideas?

Thanks for any advice
