I Just thought I'd let you know how I just averted what could have been a hair disaster.
I usually get my mousy, dark blonde hair highlighted at a salon but it costs a fortune and I could'nt afford to get it done this time.
I thought I'd do it myself. I have shoulder length hair, so first I trimmed a good 1" off the ends all over. Then I bought Clairol XLO Fearless Bleach Blonding. I used a good quality highlighting cap and pulled strands through very evenly all over. I then applied the XLO Bleach.
What was supposed to be a light pale blonde colour turned out a buttery rather brassy yellow and I'd also overdone it with pulling the strands through. It looked more like an all over job. I'd pulled strands through about every second hole - it took my ages.
It was the weekend, so from Friday to Monday morning I conditioned like mad. One tip for super conditioned hair is to soak your hair with a bottle of milk and cover with a towel for a few hours - this really works. It makes hair super soft and can tone down brassy blonde hair too sometimes.
Today (Monday) I started again. I pulled hair through the highlighting cap again, being extra gentle as the hair is now bleached. This time I pulled through about every 3 hole spacing. I then applied Clairol Dark Blonde Permanent Hair Colour.
What have I got? - Lovely natural looking dark golden highlighted hair. Phew! What a relief.
