I was thinking i could cut off a strand of my hair and put 40 vol bleach on-
Just a little tidbit here......you don't have to cut it off. I test strand on my head. I just separate a small section (about 1/2 in X 1/2 in) from the rest of my head. I just make sure it includes all of the different colors I have currently that way I can tell how it will affect every strand since I have several different colors right now. I protect the rest of my hair with clips and after applying the test color, I usually put some saran wrap between it and the rest. I usually try to do it pretty low and off to one side. It's fairly easy to rinse that way. Also, it gives you a nice comparison on top of your current color. Just blow dry it after rinsing and as it lays on the rest of your hair, you can compare.
i would of gone to a "salon"..but there are salons..and salons
i've been to normal places and they just say something about warm blonde half head highlights, and the prices in places like richard ward are very high (around £270)
...plus i'd have to travel down to london to go there!
do you know if any shops supply colorfix?
i'm going down to manchester tomorrow..so i wanted to keep a look out. also, i've heard about manic panic bleach, its 40 vol but claims it can turn the darkest of hair to almost white
Hi there fellow Brit - I guess you can't get hair colour remover either then
If you can get it (Colorfix is best, or Goldwell System is sold on
Ebay), do that rather than the bleach first. Bleach will only
make your hair muddy with all that dye on your hair at the moment, you
need a clean base.
Also, with bleaching, your hair will be very hard to dye over with a
light a brown, because your hair will be a number of colours and VERY
porous. If you try a light ash brown, it must just turn almost
black again, and fade very quickly to an orangey brown.
If you do bleach first, use a nice semi perm dye if you can (I know how
crap our resources here are) ,or if you use a perm, use one lighter
than the colour you want.
I hope this gives you some advice. I know how you feel, I've been
in the same boat and to some extent still am. I'd have been
sorted out a long time ago if I could get to Sally's. If you can
afford the salon, go there, because the UK is terrible for making good,
affordable salon supplies widely available.
light/medium ash brown is my natural colour, but at the moment it is a horrible, darkbrown/black with an oraney hue (after an attempt at lightening it with 30 vol bleach at christmas). i have been to several salons but have chickened out at the last minute, because despite how many times i tried to spell it out to them, they didnt seem to understand what i wanted.
I know if i do it my self, i'll have to do it in steps, but i have 4 more days off. I was thinking i could cut off a strand of my hair and put 40 vol bleach on- see how that turns out, and if its light enough, then put an light brown with an ash base on, and see how it looks in different light and compare it to my roots, (theyre only 1 cm long)
i've had my hair stuck like this since i tried to lighten it with a loreal expertisse kit, (it turned red-ish) so i had to dye over it in "brazillian brown" which turned out goth-black.
..so i really need to get this out of my system, but i dont want it to turn in to a disaster, what bleaches do you recommend and what exactly does colorfix do? (does it turn your hair back to it's original colour, or just lighten it to an orange-y colour?)
