Yes, definitely do pro-tac, it is so easy...I use elite remy...at www.shrinkies.net (she is on this forum, and is very careful about only getting the best quality hair)...
You can check out any of a number of posts on protac, just do a search under it...
Personally, I wouldnt do any fusion method (which is what Great Lengths is)...first because it is so expensive, and second, because I worry that it will damage my very fine hair (unless done by a very knowledgeable stylist - like the ones we have on here - and they aren't loacated anywhere near me:))

Oh me...oh my...the dreaded 6 month Great Length issue!~ Please whatever you do...DO NOT EVER beleive that you can leave extensions in your hair for 6 months. I dont care what they tell you! If you are concerned about your hair dreading or matting....you will be in for a real shock if you leave them in that long and you WILL have damage! It wise to remove ANY strand by strand method after 3 months TOPS!
That seems like an outrageous amount of money for 8 inch extensions!
Seriously....buy some Bohyme hair about $80 for 14 inch. You can probably use one pack...even if you need 2 packs its $160 and some protac tape about $15 and enlist the help of a friend to help...seriously like someone else said...if you can part your hair..you can install these tapes!
The Pro-tac lasts 4-6 weeks for most people and the Bohyme will last for 3-6 months easily if taken care of.

I found a salon that does great lengths...........just got back from a 2 hour consultation. She quoted me $847...........that is for the 8" hair.....she recommends no longer so my real hair can blend better. I really would loooove to go with the 12" (there is no 10") but that will cost close to $1200. She had some in and they are amazing! I told her all my fears and concerns and my situatuation that i am in. I am scared to death that my fine hair will dreadlock and my real hair will be damaged! She told me they could last up to 6 months........some even longer! She does the strand by strand bond method. At the point im at right now i will spend just about anything. The bad part of this is.............i may need new hair in 3 months and it may not last 6 months............that would suck cuz i would then have to pay this amount again. As is.............i am paying $120 every 3 weeks and having horrible hair taken out and put back in. I have asked my hair dresser to buy better quality hair and supposidly she has! This is why i feel i am being scammed. Taking my money and buying cheap hair! In fact one of the gals at the salon knew me from the old salon when i first got these extensions..............she felt my hair today and said definately it wasnt the same hair that i originally had! That answer's my ? right there.

I have also had the mullet look. My remedy was Hairpolice. My hair was longer than yours at the time (6in? maybe) but also very fine and delicate. I don't know the hair length needed to do this, but I had a weave and pinchbraids combo put in. The weave gave me a ton of hair and the pinchbraids were put in close to my hairline to undo the mullet thing. Hairspray my short hair down to cover the top braids and volia!
I will never do anything else, it looked FANTASTIC and the labor charge was much cheaper than the Hairlocs I had many times before! (And the Hairlocs always looked thin and mullet like and they fell out often?! weird)
My Hairpolice stylist gave me the catalog she orders from and let me pick what hair I wanted, or said I could order my own. I have nothing but great things to say about Hairpolice. Check their website for stylists in your area. Hope that gives some hope
Hey...don't diss the mid-west!! Anyways, sounds like your stylist is doing
it "free" which she should and which is kind, but not if she is giving you
crappy hair!!
Great lengths I just think is over-priced. I would say if you like your
stylist's job, go back to her, but maybe just see if you can buy your own
hair, or ask her if she can order something different, explain the
problems you are having. I think with what you are paying, you should be
able to get some pretty nice hair.
Or, I know you said you can't, but look into DIY, it's really not hard at all. I
SWEAR!!! Plus, if you have someone close to you to help you, it's super
easy. It's atleast worth a shot!!

I am so sorry that you have had to go thru this. Were do you live? Is there any way that you can buy your own hair and bring it in to her? What company is she getting the hair from?
Great Lengths are good extensions.......if you find a good stylist. I wore them and loved them, but my stylist did not do a good job of taking them out and I had alot of hair loss. The texture of the hair is great, it matched my fine/thin hair, and you could wear it wavy if you scrunced when drying or you could dry it straight.
I would seriosly look into the brand of hair that your stylist (ex) is buying, then look into DIY. If you have a friend that can help you, it really is VERY EASY TO INSTALL. You may have to go to a stylist to get the extension hair razored to blend, but putting them in is really, really easy!! If you can part your hair, then you can put these in!!

I know for a fact i would never be able to do them myself..........i am all thumbs when it comes to even styling my own hair. My hair is alost to the end of my ears.........i can barely make a very very small ponytail in the back. It has to be shorter than 4". I found a salon by me that does great lengths hair extensions.......im gonna go in for a consultation. Are they good extensions? Some of the model's on the website have hair my length. Im just scared to trust anyone.....thinking they just want my money! Can you feel the texture of the hair before they order it? My extesions look great for about 2 days then are dry and ratty looking! At this point i am feeling anything will look better than what i have now. Oh as far as my hairdresser goes.............this all happened in Dec.........i bought hair in Dec...........Feb and i HAVE to buy some now! I just dont know what im getting???? She did my hair for free...........til she started at her new salon. So for about 2 months she didnt charge me. She claims all this hair came from the SAME company. First couple sets were strait hair and then she ordered me wavy to see if it would blend better with my natural hair (it does) She claims that some of this hair may have been over proccessed...........IF it is from the same company...........how can it vary sooooo much! So basically you never know what your ordering??????? OMG..........frusterated at a whole new level! Another thing going on...........i have no clue where to go...........and absolutely know noone! I moved across the US 1 1/2 yrs ago from the beautiful West Coast to the midwest! I HATE it here and still have no clue how to get around! So now im sure you can feel my frusteration! Sorry i need to vent........hopefully i will get some answer's and some help at this salon i found.
Did your hairdresser pay you anything to be her model? If you helped her stay in business, I would say that she owes you extensions for free untill she hair she cut of have grown back, and with proper hair - not some cheap s***.

wow, I'm so sorry to hear that.
Maybe consider Biotin so your hair grows faster. I wouldn't
chop it all off if you don't like your hair short.
Sherrie made a good point about diy. I wouldn't go back to your
stylist. I think it was really nice of you to do that for her.
Obviously the other people were being sent home because they didn't
want to cut all their hair off.
Do you have a picture of yourself? It might be helpful if you want better suggestions.

So how long is your natural hair princess? There are several methods that would work. And how long do you wear you extended hair?
If you have been having them taped in, why dont you just do them yourself? Look around this board at all the Pro-tac threads. Lots of us here are doing our own extensions using the pro-tac. Or even with the help of a friend, these are SO EASY for a DIYer to do.

This is gonna be pretty long, but i need serious help. I have had hair extensions for about a year. The bonded (tape in kind) i initally paid $500 then once a month have them taken out and put back in....that is $100. Dont know the brand (i think it is European hair). This hair lasted 8 months. Something devestating happened to me. I helped my hair dresser out.......her salom was going out of business.........she needed a model to help her with her state board test to get certified to work in that state. I offered to help her.......she told me she would have to cut 1" off my hair.......no big deal............BUT.........im a freak about getting my haircut and i dont look good in short hair! My hair was past my shoulders and i am blonde with very very fine hair! She cuts an inch and we drive 2 hours to take this test. We get there and they are sending people home whose models hair is too long! The gals there came up to us and said my hair was too long.........she took me in the bathroom and chopped my hair. I really didnt freak out cuz after this test she was to put my extensions back in. She didnt know......but the model's hair had to be exactly 4" long............that is pretty SHORT!!!! They almost sent us home! They let her take the test and again she had to cut another inch.................SO all tole this is about 5" off my hair! My hair now looks like a mushroom and i was devestaed and about to cry! We head back to her house to put the extesions in and afterwards i look like i have a mullet..........this did not feel like the same hair i had before. This hair did not blend with my hair (cuz it is sooo short) felt like doll hair and at this point i am freaking out!!! Remeber i look awful in short hair. my options are going really really short and she cuts a style to my hair.............or have these extensions look like a mullet! This hair ended up being a tangled mess. I had her order me more hair.........this time wavy to maybe blend better with this short haircut! Im paying $175 for this hair......she tells me there is no other method she can do cuz my hair is soooo fine and if she does the bonding method my real hair can dreadlock and we would have to cut all my hair off! Is this true? Is there any other process of hair extensions that will work for my hair. Im starting to feel scammed and that she has ordered me cheap hair...it does not feel like the hair i originally started out with a year ago! Suposidly this hair is to last about a year and has to be taken out and redone once a month. This hair is awful and is only lasting 1-2 months! I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO!!!! I found a salon in my area that does great lengths extesions.........are those good? Can i only use this tape weft type extensions because of my fine hair? I have spent soooo much money and i have to keep these extensions in my hair til my real hair grows out a little bit more. Also these flippin extensions are falling out in the back and my short hair is showing.....i am now getting them out and put back in every 3 weeks ($100) so they are totally drying out and look horrible!!! Taking them out.....putting back in etc! Can someone shed some light........i am in some need of some serious help! I am soooo mad and dont know who to trust anymore..........i feel like i am being scammed!
