Toner will work as long as it's the right 'tone'.....not warm.
Whatever she decides, she needs to wait a bit. I know it's hard. No one wants to walk around with funky hair, but you don't want to cause further damage.
i recommended a violet or neutral filler and then a demi neutral blonde. but she's afraid it will come out too dark, and since this whole fiasco was supposed to make her hair light, i don't think she's so thrilled w/ the idea.
i think she's sworn off bleach for a bit, at least...
Oh my gosh! I wish she could have come here before her disaster! I don't know what to say. I'm so happy you got to brunette with good results. This board helped me do the same thing, and now it is all growing out perfect! Hopefully someone can help her but no matter what, I would say nooooo more bleach!

i am posting to help my best friend. she is naturally a medium ash blonde.
here is the timeline of her hair trauma since last thursday:
1. at the coaxing of her mom, her naturally light hair is dyed brownish red
2. she tries to BLEACH her own hair
3. she tries to dye over bleach with medium ash blonde box dye, but
doesn't leave it in for long enough, thus leaving her hair very uneven
and orange.
4. she tries to un-orange her hair and it turns gray/green
5. she goes to a stylist recommended by a friend the next day. he just re-oranges her hair w/ bleach.
6. stylist then goes over the bleach with toner that makes her hair super orange. "like even oranger than an actual orange."
7. she goes back to said stylist four days later and gets
highlights, which just turn highlighted parts yellow, while still
keeping the rest of her hair orange.
8. she uses blue/violet stuff by redken to try to neutralize yellows, and nothing happens.
here's what she said: "so there you have it...what do you think? the blue/violet is
supposed to ashen the yellow, but i'm not supposed to use it more than
once or twice a week or else my hair WILL turn green.
also, my scalp is
scabbed all over because of the excessive bleaching and dying all
within a week. maybe i should give it a break for a bit? it hurts and
itches and is so gross."
i originally said maybe she should use toner, but if it turned her hair orange the first time, won't it again?
