To make mine soft, I use a mixer (the kind to make milkshakes, with the one wand). I have used it on my hair and it was alright. I mainly use it in the winter.
How often do you have to whip it?
Just once. It had a consistency of heavy whipped cream to me. And it stayed that way even through winter.

melt it for 40 seconds in the microwave and whip it with a spoon until its soft. the put it on your hair =)

Deexox - I've heard that unrefined shea butter (varies from cream to light brown) does smell. Refined shea butter (looks white) has been deodorized. If it bothers you could disguise it with some essential oil?
Vanity - Shea butter supposedly retains its properties for 18-24 months but even after that it is still fine to use.

Yeah, at the moment it's a staple for me too....I love it!!! Now i'm gonna start Cantu products because they are all shea butter based...
BTW...is it me or does shea butter have a pungent aroma....like a weird "old book" smell...

It's best to use it sparingly or mix it with oils such as coconut, jojoba etc so that it's not quite as heavy but still very moisterising. I do know that a lot of people do use straight shea though and it works for them.

My sister has 100% pure shea butter and I put some on my hair. It's a bit thick, but it made my hair feel so soft and moisturized....
Anyone else like shea butter on there hair?
