I think it depends on the clips if they slide. I've had clips that slide and the ones I have now don't slide at all. Even if I pulled on them, they're not moving!!!! My hair is thin too so I think it's the clips.

Yeah, I have problems with the microrings showing as well, but I love
them and think they work really good, you just need a thick or long,
covering top layer.

Pro-tacs are great too, but wondering about the adhesive thing.

I would agree with sherrie, those methods are probably best, also if you
have fine, oily hair, well, maybe not so much the clip-ins, those might slip
a lot, but you could give it a try!

Welcome! I am new here as well. I have had the micro rings before and I can go 8 weeks (max for me ) then I have to move them back up. I did love them and they were not noticable in  my hair (to me) . I have been really curious about the pro tac and might go that route the next time but for now I am staying with the micro's. Good Luck!
Current install: 18" Bohyme 18/22 mixed with 613 -200 microlinks.....pre tipped by me!!! (never again!)

welcome.. i am pretty new to the board and DIYing the extensions but i just jumped right in .. i did enlist my fiance for the mico links .. he is much happier now that i have discovered th protac.. he doesn't have to help with those, hes a good guy!

my experience with the microrings was that they were not that comfortable and i have very fine hair strands but alot of hair and the links kept showing through which was such a pain but i didn't have those problems with the protac..  plus with the protac it was much quicker to put in and take out. It seemed like i had a little breakage of my hair with removing the microrings but it was very minor. I was able to wear my hair up with the protac, some styles are limited but i think alot of it has do due with how you place the protac in you hair. I teach aerobics so I also wear my hair in a ponytail alot! and plus with aerobics and sweating I have to wash my hair frequently. Bumble and Bumble has a product for hair that get oily or greasy, its a powder and i believe they turned into a spray now.. I have seen it in alot of magazines.. you spray this powered stuff on your hair and it is suppost to absorb the excess oils to make it look like it was washed.. they have diffrent colors to.. which is great so people with blond/ black/red...ect. hair can use it. I hear baby power also works well, haven't tired it but just a suggestion for you. But anyways. off track a bit... I  didn't put alot of the Pro-Tac  in just 2 long rows was all i needed so it was comfortable and it wouldn't have been a problem in the summer but I just had 2 long rows ..as far as being beginner friendly i find the  Pro-Tac better in that aspect, all around i have been happy with that method. My protacs were going strong after a week and a half but i took them out because I was having problems with my pretipped hair shedding.. need to retipp them, but i believe some people usually wear them 2weeks maybe even 3. I believe Liquid Gold might hold alittle longer and that seems pretty easy as well for beginners.

Hope this helps.. great to meet you!

you might want to consider pinchbraids, clip ins or a sew in weave if you have allergies to adhesives. Just about all of the other methods available have some amount of adhesives. Shrinkies and links would be the next with the least amount of adhesives. Maybe a keratin pretipped hair with links or a ring method. I would do a test run with a few strands before installing a full head to see how you re-act to them.

Also forgot to mention allergy to latex & some adhesives(bandaids, first aid bandage tape..)

Hi all!  I have read and read and read....I am so excited to try a diy install.  However, even after reading SO many posts I can't make up my mind.  I have stick straight shoulder length fine hair.  It won't hold a perm, hairspray is a joke..I have little kids, so pony tails are frequent.  I also have very oily hair.  I wash it in the morning and by evening it looks like I need another shower.

I really like the things I've read about the micro-rings, except that they show sometimes.  The shr*** tubes seem great, except that I like my fingers the way they are.  I'm an artisan so boo boo fingers are not an option.  The tape seems like it must be hot in the summer??  Can it be detected when hair is up?  How long does it really last in real life?

Do you DIYers out there practice on a head first, or just jump right in?  Thanks!!

Amanda
