Hi this is my first post, like Jam Gurl I'm also from Jamaica, I'm 28 and I just started taking care of my hair with the C&G technique with great results. When I hear you say you feel old, I know the feeling because I have felt it too but its just a feeling, 29 is very young, sometimes Quarter life people(twentysomethings-early thirties) get Quarter Life Crisis (yep there's even a name for it) where we feel behind everyone even when its not so, I think you are lucky to be discovering how to take care of your hair at such a young age and this knowledge will take you through the rest of your life. Feel better girl you're gonna make it and a Happy and Successful hair growing to you.
Successful haircare is a journey,not a destination

I agree with everyone else. I have been chemical free since April 05'. I did my bc on my 40th birthday and since I have changed how I take care of my hair, my eating habits and drinking more water my hair health has changed. I have experienced growth and my hair is dense again, not just because of the texture but thick like it was before relaxing. My mother is almost 70 she stopped using chemicals 20 years ago and all of her shedding and bald spots ceased, she keeps her hair short about a 2 inch fro, but it is very healthy. So it's never too late to start in my opinion
misscocoface- you hair sounds similar to mine with the exception of the "4cdefg" part. mine falls out in the left nape area when i get stressed. Anywho- i have 3c/4a hair and i bced at age 32.5, currently 35 will turn 36 in september and it is never too late to start or see benefit.
Me and you, your cousin and your momma too rollin on da strip on bow's
I am 45 and started taking care of my hair around 35. As you get older you will notice changes in your hair and skin. Staying on top of these changes instead of fighting them is the routine I took. I have just recently began viewing different hair care forums to help me keep the hair I have. Which is a 4 cdefg! :) Very thick and when I stress it had in the pass a tendency to fall out or thin in the back. That has changed since learning of this group.
I have noticed a change though since I have removed myself completely from chemical management of my hair of any type including coloring. My hair is the type that just does not take well to chemicals. Even some conditioners will have a negative effect on my hair. I have a supplement regimen and have started using Shaealoe on my skin. May hair is growing, and the shedding I use to have of little bits and pieces has gone. My skin has also some noticeable improvements too.
These incredible women on this sight have been very helpful and encouraging because I too thought it was a lost cause. I started getting really serious about my hair in December and have noticed some major changes in the health of my hair. MOISTURE was the big issue which is the same situation with my skin.
You have some time to learn and you have some wonderful teachers and mentors on this sight who will assist you along your journey. As the others said. Begin it now and you will be most happy with the end results 10 years from now.
I will admit there will be times of frustration and times you just don't see any changes, but everything worth having is worth fighting for. Keep remembering it as a journey and not just a final goal. Healthy Hair Care is the main goal, not just gaining inches. Some things you will find work for your hair and others will not. It is your journey, just begin it.
hey jamgurl, first off you're not old!! ur just 29,, chill!
by the way half jamaican girl over here , I see
absolutely no reason why you cant begin a healthy
hair regimen now and have a head of full healthy hair
in your 30s 40 and beyond,, just start NOW,, the
sooner the better,, after starting my regimen just last
august my hair has improved and grown
dramatically,, its amazing what the right stuff can do
for your hair,, find what works and what your hair
needs and go from there.....

I sooooo agree with Cmesweet as this sums it up real nicely. Jamgurl do start with a short term goal . Think about acheiveing a healthy head of hair before thinking about length as this will come a bit later on. Start from within like drinking plenty of water and eating well like like adding more fish too to your diet .
Also when washing try deep conditioning with 'steam' like going to a steam (adds strength ) room at your local gym. This works well for me.
There are alot of hair care tips in the forum so just choose one you like to look of (not to overwhelm) and stick with this as part of regime. keep it simple and you'll feel ok about what you are doing.
All the best and post your regime to give you that extra bit of motivation to come back to . We all behind you x

29 isn't old. like cmesweet said, lots of people have long hair and they are old. the good thing is is that your taking care of your hair now, so maybe your hair won't thin out as you get older =)
Hair Type- 4a/b *transitioning front of my head*
Length-ranges from 5-7 inches =)

You can do it! I'm 23 well I'll be 24 in a couple of days :)...but you can do it. Lots of people have gained Healthy and long hair at your age and older. First, you got to start by just thinking of short term goals...think of what you can do to help your hair improve health wise within the next 4 months. You got to start from somewhere and I don't believe that thinking as far as 10 years from now is going to help motivate you. Make a goal and give it a few months and you will see a difference.

I can't relate to age and hair growth, as I'm only 26, but my hair was starting to thin. As long as you are doing the right things are there are no problems with your hair folicles, you CAN have healthy hair. Some on the forum did the BC and began anew. Other like myself are just trying to keep what they got and get healthy. We can all relate in some way. Permed, relaxer, braided or 'fro, we have hair issues. Just browse the forum for tips and ask questions. That's how I became so hair-wise

I wish I had become hair conscious maybe 10 years ago...I wish I had known HOW to take care of my hair, whether relaxed or natural. Now, at 29, I feel like there is no way my hair will grow to the length I want it to even with all the care in the world. I know I'm wrong, but I need some motivation...I mean, hair thins as we get older naturally, doesnt it? So how can I expect to have thick healthy and long hair years from now when I'll be heading for 40 in just 10 years?? It seems like a daunting task.
Is there anyone here who started their healthy hair care regimen at an older age (like 30's - 40's) and had good results? Please tell me about your experiences.
