You do need to spend time concentrating on looking after your hair really.

But, if you have a bit of a rainbow of colours going on in your hair I suggest you put Colorfix on it to wash away the permanent dye and leave you with a cleaner base to dye over with again.  This will probably increase the porousity of your hair too, or it did with me - big time.  (I actually have the opposite problem to you, where everything I put on my hair goes almost black, even if it's a light colour!)

So, you can try this, as well as really conditioning and babying your hair.  Colofix is a very gentle colour remover, so it won't make your hair much different.  Then, dye over with a colour you want (please make sure to test strand because it might be darker than you want, and you may need a lighter shade) and hopefully it'll start holding more colour.  Maybe experiment with the times in which you leave the colour on for in test strands to get the best result.

Whatever you do, don't keep panicing and splashing loads more dye on if it still washes out...it's because your hair is damaged and more dye will only damage it more and build up a mucky colour. 

It was about a year ago I made that drastic change to blonde. My hair is still very soft and doesn't seem to be in too much distress. I have tried every kind of fye I think there is. I even went to sally's, and they gave me what the ''pro's'' use, and same results. I really just want to go back to natural and be done!! Should I get my hair color stripped?? Everything I have use in the last 3 months (probably about 7 diff colors) looks good, then completely washes away and leaves me with this two-tone, weird color!! Someone, Anyone, Please help! Ok, so this is a bit of a story. I naturally light/med. brown hair. I decided to go VERY blonde, which was a headache to begin with. I got it professionally done, which is fine, then wanted to go back to my natural color a little bit later. So, I did the odvious thing, I bought a light brown hair color from the store... and thought it would just COVER the blonde. Well, it did, for about 2 weeks, then washed out. SO I got it professionally colored again, to a light brown. Same story, looked great for a bit, then washed out. So then I got the genious idea to go light again since I could not darken my hair. It turned out this really wierd red/orange color. So, I go to Sally's beauty store, they give me a dark hair color, and it looks great.... then WASHES OUT! THEN, I get advice to put red in my hair so it can hold pigment, then put the dark color on.... did not do a thing!! My roots and halfway down are red/orange..... and my ends are ashy. 2 diff colors! I dont want to go spend a million doloors at the salon, any suggestions? I promise if I can just get a light brown color that will STAY, I will never touch my hair again!! Please help me! ASAP! Thank you.
