Yeah Colorfix is the way to go. It'll get rid of that black
build-up and leave you with a colour close to your natural colour (with
orange/red tints in) that is easier to dye over. If I were you
I'd test strand before you use the new dye because your hair may be
left porous and just go black again anyway. It may be wise to
choose the shade even lighter than the one you want to stop this
happening.
Also, If you don't want a brown with a bit of red in (I like it
personally) then you'll have to choose a dye with an ash tone
(blue/violet base) to counter some of the red/orange.

I've used Colorsilk for years now .. when I went from light pale blonde (I wanted to go to a light brown) It didn't dye correctly .. It came out with blonde/brown patchs. [ew].. So I ended up just going to a #30 dark brown, which is the darkest brown shade before going to black. It looked awful on me because my skin tone is so light. When I wanted to go a few shades lighter I had to remove the color, otherwise it would have did pretty much nothing.
I'd suggest removing the color that you have, even though it does seem pointless.. but I think if you don't you won't see any results because your hair is so dark and it just simply won't have any effect on your hair. ..You'd just be wasting money.
Hey guys! Well I've been coloring my hair for over a year now, using revlon colorsilk in natural black. Now I want to go shade lighter- they have a brown black shade but am not sure how to make that transition. Since the two shades are not so far apart I think it would be rather silly to bleach my hair and than color it with a new shade..Any suggestions? Thanx!
