QuoteReplyTopic: URGENT HELP NEEDED Hair science Posted: April 10 2006 at 6:04pm
I've today bought a temporary rich red colour - Superdrug's own brand
(it's hard to get semi-permanent red shades easily where I live) and
tomorrow I'm going to Colorfix it once again....maybe even twice, to
get as much dye out as I can. I then have Schwarzkopf Live XXL
Lively Ruby permament dye (2 boxes just in case!) to go over the
top...but I was wondering if you recommend me dying it the same day as
Colorfix or give my hair a rest for a couple of days? Will it
make any difference?
I also plan to use Schwarzkopf's new "Wild lights" range that I got a
glimpse of in-store today that looked great, to put
red highlights over the dark red. Apparantly it works on really
dark hair too - they do red, purple, blonde and pink as far as I know.
I really hope all of this works! Part of me doesn't care how much I damage my hair as long as I get it the colour I want . It's been an unsatisfactory colour for about a year and I'm sick of it!
I eventually want this kind of multi-tonal look:
I'll let you know how it all goes............fingers crossed
The other thing that would help is to get a bottle of neutral protein filler to help your hair absorb the color better, and then try a demi permanent color (since it usually lasts longer on porous hair). Post some pics when you get the red you want... btw, are you looking for a dark reddish brown, dark red, bright red, etc? Just curious.

Yes, hopefully the permanent colour will stay in. If you have a plastic cap ,or bag, dont mean an asda bag, but hey might just be as good, lol put this on top of the permanent colour whilst it is processing , this will generate heat from your scalp, helping the colour to get into the cortex, better. good luck
I should Colorfix my hair again (because at the moment it's almost
black...can't do anything with it), then get a temp/semi perm red dye
and dry it into my hair...then put a red permanent dye over that...and
it should stay in?
By the way, I always use good intensive conditioners and my hair looks
and feels in great condition, I've only ever stripped the colour twice
in the space of about 6 months, and bleached it once about 8 months
ago. It's just the colour that's a mess. I don't know why I
didn't just leave it the nice brown...but I get so bored of brown
because it's not my natural colour. I want RED!
Just got back from party, slightly tispsy..!
Anyway, I didn't Colorfix my hair again, I put on a brown dye that I
already had (my usual) for now and it covered up most of the
red....well enough for one night anyway. It's gone a bit too dark
for my liking which I presume will wash out a bit tomorrow, but I still
want my red hair...and red just doesn't want to stick...so I'm not
quite sure what to do.
I'll post some pics tomorrow.
Thanks for your help Karen.

Sorry to hear what has happened to your hair and by the time you get this message your party will be over with , hope you got something do in time for the party, maybe you got that drunk you didn't care about your hair , lol. Sorry, it sounds like your hair is very porous ( very dry and damaged) so much so the colours you use are just slipping off your hair, thats why the colour is taken at the root area , because it is new hair growth. With your hair being so porous, you will need to pre - pigment your hair first, by this i mean apply a red temp, colour or semi red colour before applying any permanent colours. Doing this first means your hair will soak up the pre- pigment colour first to stain the hair , then applying a permanent hair colour is more likely to get into the cortex of the hair swell up and stay there for longer. When you do apply a pre - pigment colour if its red you want in the hair it has to be a red temp, or semi colour, let it dry into the hair using a hair dryer, them apply the permanent colour on top of it must be dry hair. Stripping your hair with colour removers all the time is also stripping the condition of your hair making your hair become more dry and damaged . Use a good conditioner , a wee tip is to apply a good conditioner , or hair repair, wrap your head in a towel for added heat and leave on for as long as possible , this will help the conditioning of your hair. I hope this has help a little .
Can someone please scientifically explain to my why my hair will NOT
take up any colour. I Colorfixed it last night to get the dark
brown out and tried to dye it dark red just now...it hasn't taken in
any of the red except the roots. All it seems to have done is
replaced the red pigment that has been taken out by the Colofix and
made a mucky brown colour. I hate it and I've got a family party
tonight.
All I can think of to do is slap a natural brown on top...any suggestionsplease?
