QuoteReplyTopic: Update on Great Lengths extensions.. Posted: May 08 2006 at 7:49am
Thanks Sherrie!! :O) The couple that I lost last month was from me brushing too hard I think on them. I do not see any tangling or matting. She spaced mine farther apart so they are not really close together. I will definitely keep an eye on them. I may get them out earlier than June 22nd if I see any of these signs...

Paula here are the things to pay attention to....no matter how long anyone says to leave them in:
The things to pay attention to are
1. When the bond is more than an inch, (I say an inch some say an inch and a half away from your roots.) Any further and this can cause tension and pulling on your hair
2. tangling/matting or balls of hair at the bond/root area. When you start seeing this its time for takedown. The shed hair is tangling around the bond and the natural hair that is still attached...leaving this go very long could end up with serious matting/dreading
3. Bonds attached to too few hairs. When your natural hair has shed from the bond and the extension is hanging by very little hair this can cuase stress and tension on your hair and its easy to catch with a brush and pull out.
Thanks everyone for your feedback. Mine are installed correctly and have been maintained correctly. I follow all the guidelines that Great Lengths recommended which includes brushing 3 times a day. So, I hope they will be good until June 22..
Well, everyone has said what they wanted to say. The only question I have to ask Paula has she been to Cybermane's board? She also does GL and other methods and has important information on her website.
of course it's your decision if you want to spend thousands of dollars to do damage to your hair. I wouldn't take the possiblity of damage lightly - I have PERMANENT bald spots due to extensions that were not installed/maintained correctly. I wish that I had so many experts to warn of the dangers at the time and I could have avoided having damage for the rest of my life. I really can't understand why you would put trust in someone who is making $$ off of you versus ppl who have nothing to gain. Just something to think about.

Girl stop trippin know one is bashing you are the salon you go to I have been doing hair for 20years and I am a new salon owner, I know for sure extensions should not stay in the hair for six months know matter what type of hair you have slow growing fast growing, fine, coarse etc. THAT IS TO LONG. And as far as the salon owner looking at the extension he is not the stylist who did them.Sp that means nothing , jist because it is a popular salon means nothing either. The people own this forum have nothing to gain expect helping people with advice on extensions, and some have years of experince and some have months of experience, but it is experience to say the least. Great Length is a cool product , but I guarantee six months is to long. I if you dont want to post again them don't post.
Good Luck

Also, I am not here on this board to sit and defend myself or my posts. I will just not post here anymore because I don't like the feedback that I am getting from people. First of all, everyones hair is different and each persons hair can do different things. I get the impression that people do not like Great Lengths or the extensions. I just don't see why my stylist would continually lie to me over and over and over and tell me I can wear them six months. Also, the owner of a highly reputable salon has also told me this when I was there.
If you're happy, stick with it. At the end of the day, it's your money and your prerogative so only you can decide what's best for you.
I know absolutely nothing about GL and the hair they use etc so it wouldn't be fair of me to comment on the company.
The only thing I 'personally' would say is that when I remove extensions for a client at three months (I always insist), they're always ready to come out as the natural hair attached to the bond has thinned. I always worry that any longer could cause breakage. However, like you said, if you've been informed that all's fine and you're confident in your extensionist (only you know that) then I say do what you need to do. If there is any breakage just be sure to go and give them what for!
I remember seeing the pictures of this install and i think it looks awsome.
Last year i was interested in training with GL soley for the air pressure machine method (as it was advertised "10 extensions in 60 secs) anyway the sample of hair they sent me i felt was very dry ad tangly which put me off. Having said that, for people to actually be keeping this hair in for 6 months, the hair must be quite good. What do you think of the hair at this point? is it tangling, dry etc?

On another note, I have seen a small number of people with fusion bonds that were a few inches from the scalp, obviously worn longer than three months, with no damage. It's certainly not common and I've never experienced it myself, but it IS possible.

Don't worry about the people on this board and don't go away because of them. Sometimes people get "holier than thou". Anyways, I'm curious if you could take pictures of your bonds. Also, who is your stylist and does he/she or the salon you go to have a website? I used to wear fusion but stopped because of a whole pile of reasons. However, I've never tried Great Lengths and was always curious about it because everyone talked about how long it lasts. Where is your stylist located?

I am fairly new here and have not posted much...but I do love this site! I did want to share with you by GL experience, I have had 2 installs of GL and love them very much, but with the first install I was new to extensions and not as educated on them as now, when I went in to get my second install, the person I use has me take them out myself..and she said I was just looking at your paper work and it has only been 3 months its not time for a re-install yet, but I already had them out so she did them. She did tell me to change them at about 5 months, well this last install I kept in 4 months. Main reason for taking them out was they were showing from growing out.
Well I can say I have very poor hair quaility from coloring and poor water at home, and very very thin, in my install she split the strands in half because my hair is so thin, my hair was ok after 4 months, I do more damage taking them out then I think the hair being in that long. I was like you I wanted to get as much time out of them for the money spent. That is how I ended up here trying some other methods to save some money beacuse I love having long hair and dont want to be without it.
Good luck hope your hair is ok when taken out...

Yanno, your posts got me thinking about what bugs me about GL. I
think if one is independently wealthy, using a hair extension method
that is thousands and thousands of dollars a year might make sense.
For me, I'm not rich by any means, but could afford GL every
three months if I really wanted to. But for us "average joes" it
seems like spending that amount of money for extensions is kind of
obscene. I'm sure not judging people who do, but for me having that as such an expensive priority is just wrong. When I feel
really sad is when some (seems like they're usually very young)
person has saved up and saved up to afford having extensions one
time and they're given false promises about what those extensions
can do. When I was young, having some amount like $800 to spend
on something personal would have been huge. That a person in that
situation could have what they were purchasing be misrepresented
really really frosts me. Okay, done with my rant now.
Here's to the end of my BAD HAIR LIFE!

I truly believe that my hair will be ok when she takes them out on
June 22. If not, then I guess i learned my lesson to not believe
people when they tell you something. IT is sad because you think
you can trust someone and you really cannot. DIsappointing really.
I think your hair will be fine. I also think your stylist was taught
that it's okay to leave them in for a long time and throw good hair in
the trash. I doubt the stylist is being malicious. That's what they're
taught and there's a huge GL following who supports it too so of course
it's going to seem true. I hope you don't leave the forum. You seem to
appreciate extensions and the happiness they bring!!
Rock on Paula!

Paula Jayne, I'm glad you've decided to stay. Just realize that most
of us are dyed-in-the-wool DIYers who aren't thrilled about GL due to
their high price, their exclusivity, and the tendency of some GL
extensionists to misrepresent their product. If you need to hear "rah
rah, GL is the greatest!" I'm sure there is a GL message board
somewhere where one can read accounts of how one can wear GL
extensions for many months (maybe even years ) with no
damage whatsoever. That ain't gonna happen here, though!

yeah, we can leave it be. :O) I plan to stay because I like this board and looking at the extensions people get here. IT is fun here.. :O)
Well, I know that if I was a stylist I would not LIE to people. That is fraud and misleading the person and they could get sued for lieing and for fraud.. I know for a fact of that because we a similar case at our law office. It is fraud to lie to someone when you know that it is not true. Oh well, ya live and learn. I truly believe that my hair will be ok when she takes them out on June 22. If not, then I guess i learned my lesson to not believe people when they tell you something. IT is sad because you think you can trust someone and you really cannot. DIsappointing really.
Ok, look, the people on this board have NOTHING to gain or loose from telling you these things, they are not having a go at great lengths products at all they are trying to advise you on what is best for your hair.
Great lengths for the best part have really good hair, but they lie to their clients!! We have ladies right here on this very board who have taken the great lengths classes and been told by the tutors to lie to their clients! If you wanna dig a hole in the sand and put your head in it thats fine. But it's a business and thats the way businesses work unfortunatley.
Your stylist is taking your money, shes going to say whats neccessary to make you think you got a good deal and to make you come back.
combined us on this board have 100's of years extensions experience and we have taken numerous classes and taught ourselves for years. i have never once seen anyone post some inaccurate advice on this forum
anyway, i think we should all just leave this subject be now, because it's not going anywhere productive. Paula i hope you stay on this board and continue to learn about extensions with us and try out new things.
xx

That is not what I was trying to say. I was just stating what has been going on with the hair and information regarding it based on what I was told. Just updating people. NOT looking for reassurance or negative feedback..... Thanks for your replies...
