THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU Luvly !!! This is great information. Thanks for being willing to find info out for me. It is greatly appreciated. I have been roller setting my hair every night, but dying for a protective style that I could sport. My hair is the same way, to my ears and the back grows the fastest. To make sure that I understand:

1. Put my hair into ponytail. Wrap a piece of hair weave around the pony tail and then pin it with hair pins. (So I wrap the hair around my ponytail and then I pin it to make it appear like a ponytail? What is 10r2 extra tiny scrunches? Is that just small scrunches?)

2. Making the bun. Cut off tips of socks. Roll both socks together so that they become one big donut.

3. Insert long ponytail into center of circle. Seperate the long weave into and around fake bun and wrap.

Now, how long do you have the weave? How many inches?

TWO BUN TRICKS: I HOPE U UNDERSTAND AND ENJOY

ms chanelle, my hair is just above my ears and the back grows the fastest.;i can bearly make a bun.

1) when i do a protective hair bun i put my little bity hair in a ponytail and then i wrap a piece of hair weave around my pony tail and cliping them on with hair pins. when this is done my hair is in a poytail but longer. you might want to use 10r2 extra tinyscrunches to attacht the hair pins easier.

2) Now making the bun. i had a site u could look at but its not at fingertips right now; i will find it 4 you.  I use two pairs of socks, i cut the tips off to form tubes and i insert or line one sock into the other. when both socks seem like theirs only one sock because 1 is inside the other; i roll and keep rolling to the very end of the top opening.

3) when the fake bun is created, i insert my now "long" ponytail into the center cirlce of the socks or fake bun. i then separate the long weave pony into and around the fake bun and wrap it into the bun.

i hope you understand, i will give you the fotki album where i got this from, the girl was very good. good luck

It's at beautymart or sally's it is called Follicure. It is not a literal vitamin but it is an oil infused with vitamins to keep the hair healthy and strong.

You might want to cut down on blow drying your hair because that pulls the hair. You can also try KeraCare's dry and itchy products because I used to have really bad dandruff and that minimized my flakes by 50%. I would also take hair vitamins sold at BeautyMart or Sally's they work really well.

Challange here is some information about moisutre from Sista:

Quote "Moisturizers
Moisturizers are products that are water-based and nourish your hair deep within the strand. Water is the ultimate moisturizer so waterbased products are best for really getting the best moisture benefit. Products with moisturizing properties tend to be your conditioners and other water-based products. Moisturizers may also be protein-based, but these protein based moisturizers do not have the moisturizing benefit that moisture-based moisturizers have. Good moisturizers will not contain ingredients like petrolatum, mineral oil, or lanolin. These are cheap product fillers. Be wary of products that claim moisturizing benefits and contain these ingredients. There is nothing moisturizing about them! Petrolatum and mineral oil are sealants and have the potential to suffocate the hair and scalp and seal out the moisture it needs.

Sealing in your Moisturizers:
Our hair naturally contains moisture, but because our hair is also naturally porous, keeping the moisture inside is a difficult task. Sources of outside moisture, or external moisture supplementation is a must for black hair. Water molecules and moisture from these supplemental moisturizing products easily passes into the hair shaft, but they pass out just as easily. The moisture you apply needs to held in by something. Oil.
A light coating of oil on top will help seal the moisture inside. Oils are made of large molecules. These molecules are too large to absorbed by the hair strand. Applying oils to the hair and scalp will coat them and trap moisture that is inside on the inside and moisture that is outside on the outside. The key is to lock in the moisture within the strands with your oil. If you use oils without a moisturizer or before one, the oil will seal the moisture out of the hair strand and lead to eventual dryness. This technique of moisturizing and sealing has really been helpful to me and is a resonating hallmark of my regimen. Moisturizing success is all in the order in which you apply your products.

REMEMBER! Oils DO NOT Moisturize.
Perhaps a words like “nourish” would be better than moisturize. If I had a nickel for every time someone asked me to recommend a good oil that moisturizes, I would be rich! Oil alone will not and cannot moisturize within the hair shaft. An oil can only coat the outside of the strand, and give it shine- the illusion of moisture. Again, the molecules that make oil are much too large to penetrate. Oil molecules are “hydro-phobic” which means they repel and do not readily mix with water. Remember, if you apply an oil product to your hair before you have added a moisturizing product, you have created a seal on your hair strand that water and moisture cannot penetrate. "

Mealncholymonie: I am sad to say that I have no clue what Crown and Glory technique is but I would love to find out more about it. Why do you purchase Surge products? I am a PJ and I haven't seen that one. The WGO is some amazing stuff, I agree. I use it and enjoy the results, but I just have that hair that looks dull all the time. So the WGO makes it look better than it did, but I still am not getting that healthly shine that I looking for. I will make the switch to Creme of Nature and see what happens. As far as the products go, are you thinking that I should cut some of them out? If so which ones? Thank you again for your advice

Omg, the Crown and Glory method is in fact what got me from slightly below my ears to slightly below my sholder in less than 6 months. The website is www.growafrohairlong.com it can be slightly over whelming because there is just SOO much information, so here are the basics you wanna learn about:

The shampoo regimine and The braiding regimine
Its pretty amazing if you can afford braids. If you can't, she shows you how to do it yourself! He's amazing. If you need some help figuring out all the info, just ask! I know how you feel because hair can play a large role in our lives!!!! This place is amazing because it helps you with EVERYTHING!

Sakura: ITA about cutting down the heat. I have been trying to roll or wrap my hair, but when I wrap it, I still have to put the curling iron to it because it to make it look like anything. My hair is right at the bottom of my ear line, but it has a lot of different lengths in it (again due to the RIO relaxer). I really am not able to get my hair into a ponytail, much less a bun. I tried to do a makeshift bun but it came out horrible. As far as the moisturizing goes, can you explain to me exactly what you do to moisturize your hair? I have been putting Elasta QP Mango butter on my scalp and ends. But I've heard that I shouldn't put anything on my scalp. Is there a better way for me to be moisturizing? Thanks for your help!!!

You might want to cut down on your heat use a lot, and use a bit of a heat protectant.

Also try wrapping your hair if you dont like the way it looks when you roll it. or you can twist your hair while its wet and undo it when its dry.

Another thing you might want to try is moisturizising once in the morning and once at night, then seal it with a TAD bit of oil once a day or every few days.

Um, you could try wearing your hair up and out of the way during the day with ponytails, buns and such.

Have you tried the Crown and Glory technique? It really seems to have helped some people. As for hair growth, Surge products work well. Um, for moisture I thought the WGO was the most amazing stuff I've used ever... but if its not working I'm not sure... Some of the pros will be in here really soon with thier helpful words of advice, but for now that's all I know... wait, I think they've talked about the Aussie stuff and they say its not good at all. Um, I know Cream of Nature is REALLY good shampoo because it conditions and cleans at the same time. Uh.... I think you should wash your hair once a week and deep condition it too... try not to use a ton of products and also, even though it sucks, try not to use too much heat on it. Even thought it sucks, it'll REALLY make a difference in your hair's moisture level and stops split ends and stuff... Okay, NOW I'm done (~_~)

Hello ladies (and gentlemen)

I am a newbie to HairTalk, but I am very thankful that I have found it. I have been struggling with my hair for years. I tried the RIO perm several years ago and my hair has not been right since.

My hair is 4a (I think). I get a relaxer almost every two months. I hold out for as long as possible, but it sheds so bad it seems like the relaxer is the only solution. My hair is over processed, severely dry and stiff. I would like to have managable, healthly, shiny, shoulder length hair.

Can anyone give me any advice on a good regimne for my hair? Not only that but how to properly handle my hair.   Presently it is to my ear line, in different lengths. My biggest complaint is that its always dry. I moisturize my scalp every night, because it is so dry. Is this wrong?:

As of now, this is what my hair products consist of.
Pre Poo with EVOO
Shampoo 2 X month
Moisturizing Condition w/ Aussie Con & EVOO 2 X wk
ORS Replenishing PAK and ORS Olive Oil Lotion
Cantu Shea Butter Leave In
Cantu Grow Strong
Wild Growth Oil
Mane N' Tail Olive Oil Moisturizer

I usually blow my hair dry. I've tried sitting under my hooded dryer, but it never seems to dry properly. I also curl my hair every morning, so I have been trying to roll it at night but I hate the way it comes out. Any suggests on this?

I put Elasta QP Mango Butter on my scalp daily and apply Cantu Leave IN to my ends as they are pretty dry. I know I am asking alot at one time, but I am desperatly in need of HELP!!!!
