Ok just be careful if you get fusion. The stylist I used was professional with tons of training and has done fusion for over 10 years and she does just extensions full time. I have seen hundreds of photos of clients and they all looked great and many good things were said about her but I still had thinning all over after having them. Have you thought of sew-n ?
She has dealt with girls hair that has been way finer than mine, i have seen the pics, she is happy for me to speak to any of them. fusion is only damaging if you get a bad person installing it and taking it out i'm sure.
My hair isn't thinning though, its just fine, it always has been!
I really want something done by a proffessional and I can't find anyone that does protac, I don't trust any of my friends with my hair!
I really would not get the glue method if your hair is already thinning. A lot of people have had overall thinning after the glue methods are removed so I would be scared of that happening. I had fusion before and the thinning happened to me with the hair dreams system. You also have to be careful brushing and choose a special brush since you would have glue bonds throughout your head. I currently have a sew-n weave and I am happy with that. Very easy to brush and I think the wefts give more coverage and if you dont get it braided too tight and choose a proper stylist it is a good option as well. I also think the protac would work for you. If you choose this method you could get afriend to install in the back. Just buy the citrus remover and they should come out easily.
I would like some thing permanent! I went to a consultation today and I am really happy with the stylist and the price (£255 including after care brush, shampoo and conditioner!! thats with a 25% discount i think...)
This seems reasonable, right?

Why dont you ask one of the places you have looked at how much it will cost for them to install the hair if you bring your own hair? Id say most would want the business :)
I know, it does seem expensive, but my main worry is looking
after my hair, and I keep thinking that these place, who claim who also have
systems for extreme hair problems will be the ones that will look after it.
People on this forum have told me to do my own hair with protac, but i really
don't have the confidence to do it, let alone blend it to look natural.
And I don't want to be another one of these horror stories where it all goes so
wrong, especially as I have really fine hair that looks awful anyway.
I just can't find anyone in my area (London!)
to do it for me.
I am a student and truthfully I can't really afford to spend this much money,
but I am getting desperate. I am worried about the normal glue/fusion bonds,
because I am told the substance used s often close to super glue!! ARGH!
If anyone has any recommendations, then please help!!

Youchie!! 300 pounds is quite alot, and 600 is scary! Though not as bad as greatlengths. If you have the money and can afford it without worrying about being able to pay your bills then go for it :) European hair would be one of the best kinds of hair you can get. This does depend on the hair brand itself and what has been done to it to get it looking a certain way.
If you cant really afford it, im sure you can find another place that will do a great job without the hefty price tag. Maybe even getting the hair off the internet and just taking it into a salon could drop the price by 200 pounds (usually its the hair thats the expensive part of extensions).
Its completely up to you though, most of the people on this forum are either extensionists or DIY'ers so they know what theyre talking about (im not one of these people lol). But yeah, make sure you do your homework whatever you do! I had extensions that were so horrible i had them taken out the next day....never ever will i make that mistake again!
I went for a consultation at Lucinda Ellery today and they
quoted me £300+ VAT for around 50 extensions, with 10% extra free just to
thicken my hair up. However, it would cost 600+VAT to lengthen it as well. This
does seem very pricey, but I really want to have nice hair.
They seemed to used a glue, which they insist will not damage my hair, as it is
supposed to be different to the glue that is normally used and as they seemed
to do extensions and hairs systems on people with hair loss problems and extremely
fine hair, I believe that the would endeavor to look after my hair. They put
two test extensions in to see whether or not my hair is suitable, the color
match is really perfect and they are completely undetectable. I really,
really, really would like them now, but I don't want to be ripped off, at the
same time I don't want to do anything that would damage my hair.
What do you guys think?
They also said that they use European hair, is this a good
or bad thing?

A lot of people here use a similar method as the beads. There are
several names for that method, ie: microlinks, hairlocs. I haven't
tried this method. I have done the individual resin bonds, using
Keratin glue and an iron that melts the bond to your own hair. I
found the type I used slipped out a lot but that was from his and her
hair and their quality is crap.
I think if you want thickness you should go with a weft method. I do
the clip-ins but if you want a more permanent method than either have
them sewed in or use pro-tac.
I find these salons that do the individual extensions are too
expensive. It's not that I don't have the money but come on!! I'd
rather use the money for something else.
Ask these people is how much shedding you can expect.
Also, the bead or resin method should not be attached longer than three months.
After three months they need to all be taken out and re-done. The
reason is because our own hair sheds and after time, too much weight is
on the remaining strands.
You can always post pictures and ask for opinions here. Feel free!
Just had an email back from the white cliffs group.
This is what they say:
"How it works is a tiny micro bead that comes in the same colour as yourhair, it's a soft metal bead with a coloured plastic coating, the bead attaches your hair to the shoelace tip of the extensions hair. Its very comfortable and secure and they don't fall out, even with greasy hair."
Does this sound familiar?
They say that it cost between 350- 500 for extensions.
Every six weeks they do any maintenance, which is £40 an hour. And do strand tests at the consultation, I haven't booked one yet!!

It is not thinning on top, it is just extremely fine. I don't need length, i just want it thickened up.
I rang Lucinda Ellery and they quoted me from £100 up to £500. Is this a lot? They will test my hair on a consultation, by fitting a few of the extensions. I think it is done by a resin, I will enquire when I go. I'm heading there on Sat. If I post my findings here, will anyone let me know if it seems reasonable? I don't really know enough about it.
I was considering just buying some hair and protac/proflex tape and getting a friend to fit it, but am worried that the effect wont look good, as it is not done professionally.

I looked at these sites and none of them show or tell how they attach the hair.
Is your hair thinning on the top? If so, I would recomend a top peice
with clips. If you're only interested in length I wouldn't spend
thousands at one of these places that tells you to wear the extensions
for six months. You need to re-do them at lease every three months if
you want to keep your hair from damage.
I have had a lookat few of these companies that deal with hair loss and hair replacement issues, but also do extensions that don't damage your hair. I figure if they concentrate on damaged and thinning hair, then maybe they are a good way to go. I have fine hair and really do not want to damage it, so was considering these as an option, they are a bit pricey though.
Please can you check them out and tell me what you think?
