When I used the hand tied wefts I doubled the wefts (glued together with LG), then I pressed a curling iron on the strip for a few seconds after I folded over the protac...they stayed great.

It ended up working for me fine, I wash often and I'm into my
install a few weeks. I did use alot of liquid gold inside
the weft and it ended up staying in fine. The few peices I
started with that I didn't use liquid gold on you could literally grab
the hair and just pull it out of the protac. I am totally in love
with liquid gold anyway, that stuff is great!!!!

I have some hand tied wefts that I sewed together on the trusty sewing machine for clip ins and I was planning to Protac these babies in for my next install.
I would imagine that since I zig zag stitched them together on the machine, they will act more like a machine wefted top since the stitching adds thickness on top. I like to buy hand tied because they don't shed.
I just wanted to add that I have been thrilled with my remy 101 hair from Hairpiece. If you remember back in February I bought the fancy 101 1b/burgundy. I'm wearing it right now. That hair has not shed at all, and it's a machine weft! Also it's still silky and tangle free. I didn't think this hair would last this long, it has surpassed my expectations. I only wish they had lengths longer than 18" in the fancy colors.
yeah Amanda I remember when everyone first started using pro-tac and some were having problems with handtied wefts staying in the pro-tac. But seems to be alot of the gals using the handtied now and reporting no problems....go figure!
Ooops sorry my mistake, I thought it didn't work at all, I know a while back people's were just falling out, now that's interesting cos it would be a lot more comfortable wouldn't it, I wonder why some hand tried falls out and others doesn't? x
I thought I was the only one who had the handtied/protac issue. I
was thinking that I conditioned the hair too much and it wouldn't
stick......but maybe it wasn't be after all. I had to LG it to
death to get it to stay inside the protac.

Hola ladies! I bought a bunch of handtied Boyhme, silky straight in
color #4, 14 inch but actually measures 16 inches (I wonder if
sometimes you just get lucky with a little longer hair). I have extra!
I'm not sure how many little bunches come in a whole package, but
I have 7 little bunches or 3 ounces tied with the gold string (I'm sure
you know what I'm talking about).
A full package is 4 oz and $80, so I'll sell the 3 oz for $40.
I also bought a bunch of 101 fancy bright red highlight hair from
hairpiece.com in 18 inches (the actual store is right down the
street from me YAY). It's a really pretty true bright red, not dark red
or blood red and looks amazing for colored streaks. You can only buy it
in whole pkgs so I got the full pack sold for $85 I used less than an
ounce so I have over 3 ounces of the stuff. You can see the color here
If anyone wants to buy all of it I'll sell it for $30. If you want a 1
oz strip to make your highlights yourself I'll sell 1 oz for $10. Sorry
for the long note. PM me if your interested.
OH! and a PROTAC/weft issue I had. The handtied hair didn't stick for
me very well AT ALL. I don't know if its because its kinds of wirey
like and doesnt want to lay flat on the tape or just doesn't have
enough at the top of the weft to hang onto the tape with. I don't know
but from my experience, I think the machine wefted hair sticks WAY
better.
