QuoteReplyTopic: Long time between washings Posted: June 05 2006 at 3:12pm
My time between hair washings varies, depending where I am and what I'm doing. For example, on the weekends I usually don't wash it at all. During the week, maybe every other day or even every 3 days depending on the weather and how greasy it looks. Before work, I try to style it first, and if it really looks bad, I'll wash as a last ditch effort to have it look decent. I can't do the CO wash ( I tried, really!) so I dilute my shampoo A LOT (saves $$$!) and then condition.

I don't think I could go as long without washing if I didn't use a
vinegar rinse. That was the critical thing for me to be able to
extend time between washings.

Surprisingly, it is getting easier to not wash it that often
Hi SK! I'm glad to hear that this is true for you as well. I adjusted to infrequent S&C many many years ago, and took my sweet time doing it, so the process was "painless." I wonder what's the fastest transition from daily to weekly could be while avoiding going more than 1 day with greasy hair...? I suppose it also depends on one's activity level, the weather, and of course, the nature of the individual's scalp.
I wash my hair every Tuesday night and Thursday night. Any sooner it feels to dry and any later it feels and looks too oily. I use a good quality S&C then every other month I switch to a dandruff S&C. I know dandruff shampoo is hard on hair but it does work wonders on my hair.
To live would be an awfully big adventure.

I am on day 6 after doing a diluted shampo last Monday morning......Interestingly, my hair doesn't look or feel greasy - but it has less body and is somewhat limp. So I'm keeping it in braids. No itch, no smell. I'm washing tomorrow though 'cause I miss my waves!
Well, my hair didn't hold out the whole week (first hot & humid
week). I didn't wash it, but on Thursday and Friday it was oily,
and I had to wear it all up to hide it. Next week I'll try
conditioner only on Wednesday. I might need a separate summer
strategy.
Weekly washer here... It's usually pretty good for 4-5 days, starts getting marginal about a day later, and the last day the scalp is getting oily and itchy. Diluted vinegar rinse after S&C helps a lot; also, I shifted from daily to weekly only gradually (over the course of several years, but I'm certain I could have greatly shortened that interval).
I've been a weekly washer for about eight months now and I agree, it does get easier after awhile. For me, it just started because I was too lazy to wash it and now washing it any more than once a week seems unnecessary. I would suggest washing once a week to anyone who can get away with it.

I think if I don't use extra oils and do regular combings, I can extend the time between washings. When my hair is long (waist length) I want to only have to wash it once a week like LadyFrog!

My mom used to be weekly too, I don't know how she ever got it that way
with the same genes. I tried going 3 days for about 2 months and
neither me or my scalp ever got used to it. It was
terrible! Congrats on your luck!

Hmmmm, about four to five days I think. My hair was quite soft and shiny and non-greasy for the first three days (I didn't add any oils or anything, just regular combing and some brushing). By the fourth day it was not really greasy, but not really clean looking either. Fifth day - greasy! Braids for sure.....

So it's been almost a week since I last washed my hair! I think this is the longest I've gone (6 days). My hair is quite greasy, to be sure, but I'm keeping it in braids. Surprisingly, it is getting easier to not wash it that often. I'm trying to prep my scalp for WO, but haven't been brave enough to take the plunge. Anyone else out there going 5-6 days between washings?
