QuoteReplyTopic: o/t hair school sucked today! Posted: June 02 2006 at 2:30pm
Oh that's just horrible!
I remember when I did my beauty training, we had to wear full makeup and our hair scraped back. Short nails, no polish. It was awful.
It also kind of reminds me of my last job. I met with the HR director and even told him my past history with bulimia. Then when I was working, my supervisor would tell me everyday that I had to lose weight. She was like 'Oh if you stop partying so much and lose weight you'll find a boyfriend" and then she even told me I had to go on a diet of boiled egg and cucumber for a month! I was so upset because I was hired and I had even told them about my "weight issues". So then I just quit because I realised it wasn't the kind of company I fit in with.
So I think you should change schools. And maybe speak to a lawyer because it seems like that woman just said OK because she wanted your money and now that she has it, she's changing what she said.
"Discouraged" is much different than "not allowed." I would ask for a refund on the tuition and find another school more tolerant to personal expression. Other than that, if this is a privately owned school, they can make and enforce their own policies.
Boy oh boy... if you have a record of the written policy before it was changed (the one YOU agreed to) you've got a discrimination lawsuit if you want to be litigious about it. Either way, I'd run like hell and find yourself a school that welcomes your creative self as an asset.
I think I am going to see about transferring to another school. Its a bit of a drive but its just getting worse. Now they want me to bandage my hands to come into school as well. How can I wash a clients hair with bandages on my hands?
They told me today they have been 'lenient' with me till now, but tomorrow i will be sent home if I dont comply 100% with the policy.
I did meet with the woman in charge of this stuff before i started. She showed me the policy that said visible tattoos and piercings are 'discouraged' and I said 'ok... this is me, I can wear long sleeves and a high neck on my shirts but obviously i have stuff I can't hide. I can do whats in my power to meet your policy, is that going to be ok?' and she said yes.
Now she is saying she took that to mean I would comply with their policy 100% which by the way has changed from 'discouraged' to 'not allowed under any circomestances'
If they dont want visible tattoos at their school, they shouldnt admit and take money from someone with a tattood face and hands.

No special makeup, just revlon colerstay (black cap) and set with powder. Its not good for daylight, but with the red and blacklights we use in the club it works pretty good.

Girl cosmetology school is very important, just like any other school. You need to feel comfortable everyday you walk into school, and you shouldn't feel like you are being harassed. The first thing I would do is talk to the owner and if that doesn't work. FIND ANOTHER SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!!!! Cosmetology hours are long and you want to do them and get out of there, to make the big money. DONT LET ANYONE STOP YOU NOT EVEN THAT ?ITCH AT THE SCHOOL. GOOD LUCK
WOW I'm upset at that..All the school I been into had the students as well as the staff with visible tats, piercings and creative hair designs and colors...thats how it suppose to be IMO. To be able to show our creative side. I would call around and see other policies as well as alternatives because hiding the tats and piercing or whatever will get old quick.
i personally would call around to other schools and see what their policy is.
question- when u interviewed, did they tell you or did you sign something agreeing to cover up your tats and piercings? if they didnt, they CANNOT inforce it.

sheesh...seems like high school all over again with the dresscode, the hair code etc etc...
you would think in an adult world, that it wouldnt matter how you dress, what your hair looks like, piercings tattoos etc...if youve paid the money and you are there to LEARN the trade, thats all that should matter...stupid narrow minded people.....
My lip piercing is an inch by a half inch oval plug... so I don't think fishing line will help me out much. haha, I just cut a piece of band aid to the same shape as it and stuck it on the front of my plug. It looks ridiculous... but it shut them up.
What make up do people use at your club Kalika? I bought some Dermablend but it doesnt cover my stuff at all, I'm too pale and my tattoos are too bright, I may as well be putting ordinary foundation over them for all the difference it makes.
Malibu, the course is 10 months.
i wish they made band aids big enough to cover my stuff, haha, I would definately do it for a laugh... saying that though, they'd probably make me keep doing it just to spite me and make me look ridiculous so I wont get any clients! They seem malicious like that.

For the lip thing, take it out and put a piece of fishing line through as a retainer, and only plug it from the inside. Then take a teeny, tiny piece of baindaid to cover the hole (like cut a little corner off). I used to do that back when I had my lip pierced and you couldnt even tell unless you got up really close.
If it makes you feel any better, Where I work (yes a strip club), we have to cover up our tattoos with body makeup and arn't allowed to have facial piercings.

hi dunebug poor you its just not fair that creative people are not allowed to be creative!! why dont you really piss her off and cover your tattoos on your face with band aid for a laugh!!! when she asks what youre playing at just tell her that the make up doesnt work and you really dont wanna be thrown out so you thought you`d hide your tattoos the only way you could!! then see how she likes THEM apples!!!

Today was a little better. I wore a long sleeved t shirt and they made me put a band aid over my lip... but they didnt send me home.
It was crazy though, all the people I saw yesterday with tattoos showing had on long sleeves today, they girl I talked to yesterday had tape and band aids all up and down her arms to hide her stuff. I felt kind of bad about it because I know its because of me.... I feel like I should warn people not to talk to me in case they get in trouble!
Thank you everyone for all your kind words... I like your tattoo Tangles!
I am not sure if reporting this woman would get me anywhere... its unfair but since it is a policy that they have in writing they are probably within their rights to enforce it. And now they are making a point of enforcing it with everyone so I probably dont have a leg to stand on :(
I'm just going to stick with long sleeves (its only a hundred degrees out... whats the big deal, right?) and a band aid and keep my head down and hopefully it will blow over...
