I just put in lowlights last week. I wanted to add some dimension to my blonde hair. I wanted the lowlights throughout by hair so I used a highlight cap. I pulled very small sections (very small because I have very thin hair and didn't want to make my hair too dark) through the cap -- about every second or third hole. Then I used a shade about two levels darker than my current hair color with a 10% developer. Of course, I tested a small strand first.
It worked great! I'm very pleased with the result. If you decide to do the cap, then you'll probably need help pulling out the back sections. My sister-in-law helped me. Good luck!

This depends on where you want them, Could be on the natural hair line, thats were most people have them done. You take the hair from the hairline at the front of head to the middle of the crown area, if it is a T bar you wanted , then you would also take sections of hair from the ear up to the top of the head. You can Have slices of low-lights, which are more bold pieces of colour, or weaved sections of low-lights which blend in with your natural colour.
