QuoteReplyTopic: Disaster with color fix, help!!! Posted: June 19 2006 at 11:00am
That's why Colorfix never works on my hair then. My hair has
been dark for so long now that Colorfix won't lighten it up
enough...sure it removes build-up but it stays very dark.
Bah. Guess it's time for the bleach bottle...

Could somebody help me please and give me an advise on what to do as I am beside myself today. I can not stop crying and I feel terrible. What happend was that I have ordered through ebay a box of color fix which finaly after two weeks arrived this morning. I was very happy that at last my dark brown hair will lighten up. My natural colour is medium brown but after few color mistakes I have been coloring it with semi in dark brown. Carefuly after reading the instructions I have applyed the color fix to my hair and was very happy from the result I got. My hair was very light warm brown which could have been very nice if I didn`t put the third bottle (processing lotion) when I finished. This was how the instructions have said. The result after was very dark brown even darker from the original color. I can not belive what I have done! Why this happened? What to do next? Will it lighten up by it self? Please tell me. Thank you for any kind word.
I am so sorry this has happened to you. I have been through similar situations where all you want to do is cry with frustration. (I think MANY of us on here have).
This has also happened to me before with Color Fix. The reason your hair went darker again after using the processing lotion is because it likely would have darkened up again in a few days anyway. From what I understand, the processing lotion is included to essentially 'test' your hair to make sure all the colour molecules have been removed with the colour fix. If they haven't been completely removed, your hair will darken up again anyway as it is exposed to the elements, oxygen, etc.
Basically the 'Color Fix people' say if your hair darkened up again, you must re-apply the colour fix and try to completely remove all colour molecules.
If you really hate the color it is now, you don't have to wait to colorfix again. Actually, when you're doing corrective color, I think it's better for your hair to go ahead and get it over with the same day. It's less stressful on your hair to get into the cuticle again right away, rather than to go back and re-open the cuticle after it has completely closed. At any rate... yes, changing our hair can be a good "pick me up" but it can unfortunately be a huge downer, when something goes wrong! Some semiperment dyes cannot be completely removed with colorfix, because not all semipermanent dye molecules react with the colorfix. That may be why your color got darker when you applied the processing lotion. If you're having trouble getting more colorfix and you want to make a change to perk up your hair ~and your spirits!~ you could try a few foil highlights. (Go to a pro or make sure you strand test first so you don't end up with "orange" highlights!)
Strand test, strand test, strand test!

Thank you all for your reply! At least I feel comforted and know that someone cares. I will try the colorfix after couple of weeks and will see what comes out of it. Hope that it will be better this time. I am still completly confused about the lotion but I should be happy that I have hair in good condition. Hope it will fade a little bit with time.
The reason behind all this hair changing is that every time when I feel very low or rather depressed my hair suffers. Can not stop the cycle. Do you sometimes feel the same? As if a color change will result in happyness. Strange. Again thank you all for reading this.
Don't cry! It's only hair - and you can fix this! I'm sure that may not sound comforting when you're itching to get the dark color out, but it will be ok. It is normal for hair to darken after using the processing lotion. That 's the product that basically tells your hair to "stop" releasing the dye. I always make sure I have enough colorfix available in order to repeat the process, if necessary. I usually do have to repeat it - because I tend to err on the side of doing too little, rather than too much. I've never skipped that step, as Aubergine suggested, but I can understand why it works for her. If there isn't so much dye in your hair that the colorfix will lift "too much" then you wouldn't necessarily ever need to tell you hair to "stop" releasing the dye. I don't know how/if that would affect the health of your hair. But since Aubergine still has a full head of hair, I'd say it's manageable. Good luck!
Have you had some similar experience aubergine? Do you think I should try again but without the lotion and will it be to much for my hair? Thank you for the kind reply. I am very grateful.
Thank you for the reply. I don't have any left unfortunately. I have used it all becouse of the lenght of my hair. Did apply deep conditioning mask and to me my hair still feels healthy and very silky. I have tryed to look again on ebay to find some more colorfix but there is none at the moment. I don't want to bleech my hair as I have done it before in the past and it wasn't nice. Do you know where I can get some more colorfix? I still can't understand why it has gone darker from the processing lotion.
Thank you again.

It likely will not lighten up on it's own. Do you have any of the color fix left? If so, you will need to apply the ColorFix again. Condition your hair well and then do another round. If you do not have any left and don't have access to more then you may need to use bleach to lighten your hair and then apply another color. Just be aware that, when you color, your hair is now more pourous and will take the color much more quickly!
