You know on this board there's always the battle between the licensed and the unlicensed! Gets me in trouble all the time, so I'm keeping out of this one!
being certified doesnt make u an expert in the method, it gives u backing like a credential does, however, i do agree, i do alot of clean up work from other certified and uncertified stylist-just cause u take a class doesnt mean u are ready to charge without experience!
my main beef is this-
learning by reading, then charging clients to be an unknown guinne pig, that is wrong, just plain ol wrong!
and yes i have seen and heard it being done, however i do strongly agree that if someone IS going to do extensions and charge in a Salon, then yes they in my opinion, should be lisensed in cosmotology.

its just that sometimes you tell people you're not "certified" and they give you the "oh" as if you have absolutely no idea what you are doing.. i mean, geez.. i didnt go to a 2 1/2 hour training session, but i have done over 20 full installs.. i think THAT and my happy clients speak for themselves..
i include maintanance in my price. If anything happens to fall out due to improper care- i dont charge anything extra to put some back on. For first timers, this always seems to be a problem, no matter how you stress the importance of proper care. The client, however provides the hair and microlinks/shrinkies, etc. as far as fusion, i schedule them to come in so i can check the bonds every month they have it on, and i can reheat anything that needs to be reheated, that way the bonds are always looking good and symmetrical, and do not come off.
i am not certified, however, but i have done enough heads to guarantee my work. i make sure clients know that right off the bat- bc i do this for FUN, not for a living. i disagree with you guys above with chosing only a "licensed/certiified" stylist. A lot of these "certified" people took a one day course, have only practiced on ONE mannequin, and claim to be pros. Then, you confidently sit on their chair, and they proceed in messing up your hair. Nothing against formal education, but there are girls on this board that can dance circles around many "pros" with licenses, and they have never taken a formal beauty class in their life. (ie, the horror stories every week on this board about girls going to the salon to get extensions and having their hair messed up.. it's really sad..)
I think the MOST important thing to look for when chosing a stylist is to see their portfolio, and talk to their clients.
A lot of them will let you come in while they are working, so you can see exactly what they are doing. Take a look at the bonds, and then decide. Make sure the divisions are nice and clean, that you like the finished product. Also ask to put in a few in the back of your head so you can try it out.
but do keep in mind, that CERTIFIED does NOT equal QUALIFIED.
Yup i agree with Tangles, most important parts for me would be to see the heads that theyve done (not just finished pics either-i want to see the bonds themselves) and also the guarantee!! which is equally as important.

Ladies when choosing a stylist to do your extensions, what questions/considerations do you take into account to help make your decision?? (i.e. must see a live client, portfolio, ask what the cost is, and what it includes, etc..)
Think of this as building a questionaire/how-to-guide for choosing a stylist.. What would this look like??
