It's great that you aren't getting relaxers that often.  Look into ORS Temple Balm, that may help regrow your hair. I also think massaging your scalp with Rosemary oil may help with the tenderness you feel in your scalp.  I hope that helps.

I straightened my hair once about six months ago and then had a touch up about three months ago.  Since then, my hair has started to gradually thin out around the hair line.
I'm afraid of what will happen if this continues. 
It is very sensitive around the hair line so I have been trying to not put it in a pony tail.  It sometimes hurts when I put it in a loose pony tail. But, it's poofy and out of control so I dont' have any choice but pull it back.
Any  suggestions?
