QuoteReplyTopic: HELP! Humidity killing my extension's curl! Posted: July 10 2006 at 9:44am
It's really humid here sometimes too. I don't know why this works for me, But I wash my hair at night, flat iron all the curl and frizz out of it, put on plenty of whichever silicone smoothing product I have handy, then I wrap it around sponge twistys put a scarf over it and sleep with it like that. In the morning, unwrap, a little more siicone and a light coating of hairspray and I'm good to go. I don't know why this helps keep the frizz at bay, but the curl certainly holds all day.
I moved from Los Angeles, CA to New Orleans, LA for a year for post-Katrina volunteer reasons. My hair is going batsh*t as a result. The humidity kills it, and my extension's curls. I've used silicone on the extension hair to help keep it smooth and straight, but on the days I want a curl, I'm beginning to experiment with a new technique I call the "Southern Hairspray Sandwich" because heat doesn't work.
I start with a section of extension hair, then soak it in medium-control hairspray, then spray with Salon Care Extra Hold Humidity Proof hairspray on the top and bottom of the hair really well. After this, I twist the hair and wrap it tightly around a sponge roller and snap it into place. After about 1 hour, I take the hair out, brush with a spornette brush, and bobby pin things into place. I also apply a coat of silicone gloss into the hair while styling, to help prevent more humidity.
Is there a better way? Ladies of the South, what can I do to make my hair look cute without the abundance of hairspray/grease? I still lose some curl with the Sandwich method.
If time travel were possible, everyone would keep going back to that one GREAT hair day!
