It looks to me like it's mostly a difference of whether you smooth the layers or flick them out.  So probably you could do them both with the same hair.

there is a slight difference between the two. it looks like the first picture has more shorter layers then the second one. either would look nice

Hey everyone! This is my first post here.  I am excited the look at all the old topics. Anyway, I've been growing my hair out for a couple of months and it's almost at the length I want. So, I made an appointment to have a style cut in but I can't decide between two. Could you all tell me which one you like, why and what you don't like about the other one? Alot I know, I'm just really indecisive. Anyway these are the cuts:
