Need some advice on possibly going lighter

Thanks, Claude!  I've decided just to stick with the color I have now to avoid potential (likely) screw ups.  I'm going to use the Ion Brilliance next time though. I'm not sure whether I should get the medium brown or dark brown though.  My color is somewhere in between.  I'll probably just ask one of the workers at Sally's which I should go with.  

The main reason I wanted to go lighter is because I'm VERY fair-skinned and use sunless tanners in the Spring and Summer.  But in the winter when I'm naturally soooo pale, I always think that lighter hair wouldn't wash me out.  But I don't know.. it actually might make it worse.  I guess I'd have to get a pros opinion.  :)

Oh I'm sorry!  I looked at so many semi-, demi-, and permanents that I must have got them mixed up.

Okay, here's a little background info first - last Sunday, my mom and I put Garnier Color Breaks highlights in my virgin medium brown/auburn hair.  Long story short - it turned out horribly.  The "highlighted" strips were a gross, unnatural yellow/orange color.  I was NOT happy with that, so the next day, I dyed my hair with L'Oreal Excellence in Dark Brown.  It covered the highlights really well, and only a slight tinge of coppery color shows through in certain lighting.

Now I'm thinking that I'd like to try to dye my hair a little lighter.  I picked up a box of Revlon Colorsilk in Light Brown today.  I should start off by noting that the color the L'Oreal gave me is definitely more of a medium brown; not so much dark brown.  And I know that color can't lift color but it's not like I'm trying to go blonde here.  Could I end up orange or anything by attempting it?  I would of course to a test strand first.

I was also considering using L'oreal Feria in Havana Brown (medium brown), which is a natural shade.  But now I'm pretty reluctant to even try it, as I've heard lots of horror stories regarding damaged hair, weird colors, and bad fading.  I've also heard that it doesn't work well with bleach, and since I did those highlights last week, my hair *has* been through some bleaching and I'm afraid those areas will turn orange or something.

My third option - using Ion hair color that you buy at Sally's.  I've heard great things about it, and it's demi-permanent.  If I used that, I would either attempt the Light Brown or I'd do a Medium Brown.

Anyone have any input/advice/comments on any of those options?  I would appreciate anything!!  Thanks!
