Thank you for replying. I was actually thinking about going dark ash blonde as well, but several people here have told others to go a few shades lighter than their anticipated result so that's why i was going lighter.. maybe that was just for darker colors. I still don't know if I'm going to do the gloss or the toner.. or maybe even permanent...and I have to go to Sally's in a bit.. but I guess I have to just go and figure it out.. Thanks so much for all your advice..

Aw,you poor thing! Geez,I have been there too,in fact i think most people on this forum have. The last time that happend to me my hair was not even yellow, but WHITE with no pigment at all. (And a wonderful hair stylist did it to me too!) I'm not a pro by any means, but I feel I know alot due to "TRIAL AND ERROR".
What worked for me,was actually a DARK ASH BLONDE. My hair was still VERY light, but not WHITE after.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest that maybe you ask Clairol. They have a website and a toll free number and answer questions like this all the time. You can instant message with a color specialist for free.If you dont like their advise...dont follow it,but it may help you make an informed descion about what to use.
The website is www.clairol.com and the number is1-800-252-4765~but the number is only available mon-fri 8:30am-8:30pm
I feel bad this happend to you,but you arent the only one. I would never critasize someone for their hair mistakes. Just keep using the protein and add some when you color as well to the dye probably,so hair is in better shape and wont fall out. Good luck to you!

Just correcting a few things written before.. When the hair used to fade too much I used no red corrector, not gold. I think where I went wrong in the second dye process, was in buying a neutral and an ash, thinking it might work.. I couldn't find an Ion color that matched what I was looking for and the two together looked like they would come out to my desired end result. I did actually do two strand tests before applying the Ion the second time after prelightening.. and they did seem to come out good. Why the end result I got was different, I don't know, I think because I didn't leave the lightener on long enough (It hurt sooo bad!). Anyway, The color now.. to say yellow is really not describing it. I don't even know that I can. But it's the brightest yellow one has ever seen.. with a tinge of strawberry blond I guess. So I'll settle for medium ash blond.. if I can find a way to make it work.. and not do too much more damage in the process. Sorry for the long posts!

Hello all.. been reading this forum for a while now, really enjoy the great advice! Here is my dilemma.. Have been dying my own hair for years, am naturally medium brown, but I am approx. 70% grey, in my late 30's. It is long, towards the end of my shoulder blades. I usually dye it medium brown and then frost w/ a cap without overdoing it too much. My roots were growing about two inches, was trying to give my hair a little break I guess. Plus whenever I buy medium brown (usually use wella) I eventually wind up with too much red, despite the use of gold corrector. Doesn't happen right away, but it does fade too much for my liking. So, I saw several people here and elsewhere who liked the condition of their hair with Ion, so I bought it last week, but in dark brown, because I wanted to counteract the fading. Long story short, you've heard it a thousand times before, it turned black. I washed with dishwashing liquid and head and shoulders for several days, conditioned, proteined, still black. Two days later I couldn't take it much longer and couldn't do the highlighting with the base being so dark, didn't even try. So I went and got two colors of Ion, in lighter shades, and a prelightener. From all the washing days before I guess, my scalp was a bit ripe and I didn't realize it until it was already on my head and I was in tears it hurt so badly. Couldn't afford to wash it out and put my hair through it again another time, so I left it on, but for less time that I would have ordinarily. It lightened to yellow and I attempted to color a dark ash blond over it, after spraying on some protein filler and letting it dry. Still yellow. Two days later, redness, burns on scalp, and the biggest flakes you ever saw in your life. I couldn't do any more to it so I've been using red gold corrector in my shampoo and mixing it in with conditioner or protein as well. It still looks bad, but it was all I could do to at least improve the color a little. I have been using protein all week and then conditioning, and not washing unless absolutely necesssary. I can't take the color any longer, it's awful.. and I'm ready. Scalp isn't a 100%, but I'm avoiding so much in my life because of the way I look. My question is... I have been tossing around a few options in my head this week about how to correct the yellow and maybe take it to a medium ash blonde when the time was right. My question is.. what would be gentler on my scalp (and my hair) at this point.. Something like Clairol Radiance Colorgloss or somthing equivalent, have used in the past) or a toner with 30 or 40 developer? I know several will be tempted to jump in with "go to a salon" but I just plain can't afford it at all right now, it's out of the question. And I already feel bad about myself enough lately.. so please.. go easy on me..I know, I've done a lot already, my hair and scalp need a break, but I have waited as long as I could and I *have* to do something with it now.. Haven't washed in two days, will dampen it and apply neutral filler before doing the coloring.. Your ideas or suggestions for correction would be very much appreciated.. :)
