I earned a nickname "knothead" from a bad install I did on myself sewing the wefts onto braids. Those wefts tended to slip (probably the way I did it) so I would do a mend sew to reanchor. Anyways, the mends caused my hair to knot up and it was a big mess when I took them all out - I lost a big chunk of hair I didn't put in extensions again for several months while researching better methods.
I have used the rings on wefts for nearly a year now with tremendous results! I double sew my wefts first, sew the rings on about every 1-1/2 inches apart. There is no weight issue for me. I have been using the med size microrings, which seem to hold enough of my hair to support the wefts. I have no hair loss or breakage when I take out my installs. The two important things I have learned is to use great quality of hair AND rings. I used the silicone lined rings last install, but didn't like them, although I'm sure they were better. Sometimes the silicone squished out of the ring when I flattened them which made them more visible (the clear silicone in my dark hair).
The only pain is sewing the rings onto the weft each time. The pic above shows my first try - used an elastic thread which was too thick. I now just use brown wig thread, sewing a knot after each ring is sewn on. That way if I have a damaged ring, I can cut it off without losing the others. Then just sew on a replacement ring. This sometimes is necessary if I try to open a ring to adjust it but it doesn't open correctly. Honestly I would try the protac method myself but worry about being able to french braid my hair and how well it would do with a motorcycle helmet on and off!
yes it does sound logical, but my thought is if there are many links holding the weft in place all aroung the head, lets say 1/2 inch apart each would that not distribute the weight more? it just a thought so i would love in put if i am wrong and thinking crazy. i was going to do it on my self on the bottom(no clients tilli perfect it on myself...then friends..) but if you really think it is too much weight then.... it just seems like such an easy instal(aside from the sewing of the links)

from past discussions of the method, alot of people seemed to agree that adding the weight of the wefts to only a a few supporting strands was quite stressful. Personally Ive never tried the method but it seems logical that only the strands through the links are supporting the weight of the weft.

thankyou i was reading the posts from the link and i was wondering if it alot of people agree with the damage factor. it it better to bond it as in the balmain method? i thought with the links maintenance would be easy... but not if i am going to loose my hair lol
barbielocs - I've used the EZ weft system and now make my own version of rings onto wefts - so that I can use a better quality of hair. This pic shows my first try at it, but now I sew the rings so that they rest just above the weft. This allows me to get in easier to tighten each ring. By the way, try to use the plier tool with OUT groove lines on it. Those sometimes catch onto the hair and pull. Here is a link (I hope!) to the post where I describe my method in detail. so how do i put the links on to the wefts myself as in the afrocare link. when i tried sewing the links on my self it looked awful. the dr locks link isn't what i am looking for though. i want the other method. any tips on how to sew or ad the links myself? thankyou

I THOUGHT I SAW A DEMO YEARS AGO ON HOW TO USE MICRORINGS ON WEFTS. I THOUGH YOU SEWED THE LINKS ON THE WEFTS OR SOMETHING.
I THOUGHT I SAW THE DEMO ON DR LOCKS BUT WHEN I LOOKED I COULD NOT FIND IT. NUT I DID FIND THAT THEY WILL BE SELLING EZ WEFT WHICH I THINK IS THE SAME THING. CAN SOMEONE TELL ME A LINK WITH PHOTOS- IF YOU KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT(AND IF IT EXSISTS BECAUSE I AM STARTING TO FEEL CRAZY!
