Welcome to the site. I recommend starting with synthetic to figure out the weft placement. If you butcher a cheaper piece of hair you don't feel as bad replacing it while you figure out the best way to install it on your head. Sherrie above is great to order from. Definately try the protac first off.

Whichever hair you buy, I'd suggest getting longer wefts that can be cut. You're going to have to experiment with which pattern works best for your hair. Many of us do long, horseshoe-shaped wefts around the head from temple to temple for the lower hair. When you're putting pieces in nearer the part/top of your head, they really have to be cut much smaller to fit your hair and growth pattern.
Expect to experiment for a while before it is perfect for you, and know that you'll need a good haircut to blend the wefts in once they are installed. I remember my first install, looking at myself in horror with this short-short hair on top and this long, string-looking hair glued in around the sides and back. (Nope, mullets will NEVER be in style, in my book!) But once my stylist razored the heck out of the extension hair it looked pretty cute. Also know that gluing in the wefts the first time is so stressful! Putting highly sticky stuff in the hair is kind of weird at first, until you realize that everything you put in will come out with the right remover/technique. (After only about eight months of wearing extensions, I'm so confident that I actually took mine out and reinstalled them using a different adhesive method and some new hair while on vacation... in a hotel room on the 29th floor with an amazing view of Manhattan! All I'd brought to trim the ends of the new hair I'd installed was nail scissors, though. That was fun. Laughing... I also colored my roots the next week in the bathroom of a five-star hotel in Beverly Hills!)
It took me about three installs (and maybe 2 ounces of extra hair, so buy a bit more than you think you need) to get to where even my perfectionistic self was 100% happy with my hair. But, I've got to tell you that the process of learning how to do your extensions is SO MUCH FUN! And SO EXCITING!!! A warning, though: You're gonna be addicted!
thanks :) did you just buy the wefts and cut them yourself when you started or did u buy pre cut pieces (if that makes sense?) its just iv seen some on ebay and i got confused cos there was clip ins that said they could be glued and there was also like 4/5ft of wefts that said they hhad to be cut? which one would i need? sorry for the questions i just dont want to spend any money till im deadly sure of what exactly i need :)

Mine wasn't any longer than yours and was much finer and thinner when I first started with wefts and Protac/Liquid Gold. While it is very short, though, just like MetalGirl said, you're going to have to really work with the extensions for a while. I had wefts to within 3/4" of my part on either side and all the way to the top of my head in the back until my hair got 4-5" long. They're a little tricky to keep hidden, but a bit of hairspray will keep your hair over the tops of the wefts unless it is windy. You're also going to have to wear a bit more hair extension hair to give a full look. For hair the length in my avatar, I wore about 6 ounces.
The good news is with careful attachment and removal of the wefts you can grow your hair out easily. Before you know it, it will be down to chin-length, which will give you options for more styles. It will require much less extension hair and the wefts will be able to be installed lower, making them more natural-looking and much easier to hide. I think that ideally having your own hair shoulder-length allows for the best blending of longer styles. Check out Malibu's pic with her clip-ins. Her hair is shoulder-length and the blending with the extensions is perfect!

thank you for the reply! yeah i was worried about the mullet thing so i may wait another month or so and leave my hair to get a bit longer on the top and at the back hehe. :)
one more question would it be best to buy wefts that have already been cut into pieces? or to just get it and cut it myself?
Your hair is quite short, but since your top layers look a little longer, it may be possible.
If I were you, I'd probably glue them with Liquid Gold or use the Protac, or even a combo of both, as some people do around here.
As far as how much hair to add, there are a few factors to look at:
the thickness of the person's natural hair
The length of the person's natural hair
how long they want to extend it
You hair is very short and it looks like it's thick, and you want to extend it fairly long. You would say you will need at least 8 ounces to make this work.
Also, and this is important, to get your short top layers to blend and not have it look like a mullet, you will have to put wefts very close to the top of your head, as close to your partline as you can without having them being visible.
I hope this works out ok, but I have to tell you the extreme shortness of your hair will make it a challenging job. It can be done though.
In my experience, when I have bonded or sewn in wefts on very short hair, it seems like the wefts slip out a lot faster than when the natural hair is longer, so this may be something you will experience.
hello everyone just wondered if anyone could help me out id really like to try putting some wefts into my hair to make it shoulder length/poss bra strap length.
Just wondered would it be possible on my hair right now as its aout 2/3 inches all over with bit longer in the fringe.. heres a pic from two days ago to give you a better idea(sorry i look daft i was squintin in the sun :p)...
If its possible what would u reccomend is best microrings/glueing them in/or pro tac tape? and also how much would i need of the wefts?
