That`s ok, you don`t have to go through all that!:) I appreciate the offer of step by step directions, though. I think the senior picture would help get my point across to a stylist, though. Thanks!

Thanks Foxfan for the info!

I used to cut my crown area myself! Now I'm letting it grow in.

If you don't mind sending on some pictures, that would be great! If ther are different angles in different pictures, even better! I'm taking it that these arre picturtes of how your hair was then? I wasn't sure if you still had the same style now or not, just maybe modified to a more nineties style. I guess I would need to see the pictures from the eighties. Thank you very much!:)

You can just send them to my e-mail address.

Right now my hair is blunt cut, 2 inches below my shoulders. I am growing my bangs out so they are blended in down the front.

oh, and there is no more perm. I had one october 99 but by the first of 2000 I had it straightened. My hair is naturally straight as a board.

I wasn`t able to find pics of my hair in the 80s because all of my "unnecessary stuff" is packed away bc I am going to be moving soon. I did have my senior pic scanned and saved to disk that I can email to you.

The summer before my sr year we went to hawaii; my hair was so sun damaged they had to cut off 2 feet of hair to get rid of the damage for my pics!! The style is still the same, only shorter. The pic is better because you can see how it was layered at the bottom. My "poofyness" was toned down a bit for the picture, so just imagine the pic with my hair teased more. :) :) :)

my hair layering was weird. I was poor and couldn`t afford to go to a salon and have them cut it. I was also the one that cut my siblings hair when we were growing up. Speaking of which, I have to cut my hubby`s hair tonight.

I used to wash my hair upside down in the bathtub after washing my hair, I would smooth my hair with a wide tooth comb (still upside down) I made sure that all the hair was combed thru straight. Then I took a hair elastic and put it on the end of my hair -- usually about 1-2 inches from the end depending on the amount of splits and damage. Yes, I took the scissors and cut the hair off right at the elastic -- straight across. I had to have some help from my sister because my hair was so long -- she was 10.

Then I would take the elastic off and twist up the hair on the top/front section of my head - sort of like a tornado -- and take the scissors and nick the hair every 1.5-2 inches to layer that a bit more.

I had the typical rock star look with the sides and bottom 5-6 inches layered and bangs.

I don`t know if you need a visual on this, it`s kinda hard to explain without pictures. I think a salon could probably do the same, but I had to improvise! ;O

let me know if you need pics and I will see if hubby can bring home the digital camera and I will take demo shots. :)

Hi Foxfan,

When I read your description of your layered hair in the "Eighties" thread, I wanted to ask you if since the hair was to your waist, did the layers start near the crown? Were you able to have layers from the top to the ends of your hair, or wasn`t it styled like that? The reason i ask is because I`m seriously thinking of getting a layered look (see my thread at Jerkyfleas` message board about "Farrah" hair) and if I can get layers from top to ends without giving up length, that would be ideal.
I was under the impression that i might have to give up some length.

Thanks for any help.
