QuoteReplyTopic: How can I get smooth, shiny hair?... pic provided Posted: November 03 2006 at 11:14pm
I have finally found products that give me smooth, shiny hair! I started using all new products. I now use ALBA Hawaiian Honeydew Nourishing Hair Wash, Neutrogena Triple Moisture Everyday Deep Conditioner, and Herbal Essences Break's Over Strengthening Leave-in Cream. Once a week, I use Healthy Sexy Hair Concepts Pumpkin Detoxifying Shampoo to get rid of build-up and Neutrogena Triple Moisture hair mask for deep conditioning. Every once in awhile I will spray Redken Clear Moisture Instant polishing prep on my comb before I comb through my wet hair which adds extra shine and softness to the hair (I don't spray it directly on my hair because that adds to much product and weighs down my hair). I have noticed dramatic improvements in my hair. It used to be really dry now it is smooth and shinier than ever. I don't know how I stumbled upon this concoction of products but I am amazed at how well these products work together on my hair. Thank you all for your ideas I appreciate it! I am very pleased with my new products. Happy hair days to you all!

put serum (most serums get it smooth) (Zero Frizz serum at Walmart) on
straight hair then flat iron it to get smooth hair then put Zero Frizz
quick fix instant glistening mist(at Walmart), getting the ends trimmed evenly also makes the hair look smoother

Normally I'd tell you to use a demi/semi dye to boost shine, but since you have highlights it may not be a good idea cuz it could turn the highlights strange colors.
I use Clairol's NATURAL INSTINCTS,you only leave it on for 10 minutes and the results are very shiney hair with a little color boost.
In between using that I use an IONIC blowdryer which is much easier on my hair and creates much less frizz and a hair serum/lotion such as BEDHEAD AFTER-PARTY (I LOVE THIS PRODUCT!!!) or John Frieda's frizz ease (not quite as good)
And rinsing with cold water from the shower is supposed to add shine too.

Hair that has been lightened generally is more dull looking because the
hair gets damaged, so if you want it shiny, I wouldn't dye it
again. To make hair shiny, first it has to be free from silicone
buildup (buildup from conditioners and some shampoos). You can
use a clarifying shampoo to remove those (don't use it more than once
every 2 weeks, its not for daily use generally). Doing that will
be very drying though, so you will need to condition really well
afterwards. I'd suggest a mayonnaise treatment. Use fatty
mayo, not low fat and not miracle whip. Leave it on your hair for
an hour, then wash out with regular shampoo and condition. After
your hair is dry, it should be alot shinier than it was before, since
most conditioners these days do contain a lot of cones.
Another thing that may effect your hair's shine is your water. If
you have hard water (water with lots of metals or minerals in it) your
hair will get dull and less soft over time. If this is the case
for you, use vinegar, diluted at 1 tablespoon vinegar per 1 cup of
water (approximating is okay, you just don't want it too strong or too
weak). Dip the ends of your hair in it, then pour the rest over
your head after you condition. Don't rinse out. The vinegar
smell will evaporate as your hair dries, you won't smell it
later. This slightly acid solution will help the minerals from
the water slide off the hair. A tip: If you do this
and don't notice any difference in your hair - that its a LOT softer
and shinier - then your water probably is soft and you probably have no
need to do this because your soft water doesn't leave minerals in your
hair to dull it.
Another thing I do for shiny hair like that is oil it after its
dry. One or two drops of oil is enough, from the ears down only,
then brush or comb it through. Jojoba or coconut are good ones
and they should not leave hair looking greasy. If they do you
used too much.

How can I get my hair shiny and smooth like this? If anyone has any ideas please let me know, thank you! My hair is mostly straight, a couple of inches past my shoulders and I am growing out my highlights (they are halfway grown out) I didn't want to damage my hair even more by coloring over them. Can coloring my hair provide a glossy look or do you have suggestions about which conditioners and other products I could use, thanks.
