When I was struggling with this problem, I was surprised to read about someone who had success hiding a cowlick by putting a weft above the cowlick rather than below it. I tried it and found it works really well as long as you have those two side wefts perpendicular to the back weft, all coming together in a pretty tight \_/, just above the cowlick. I would have only about an inch of the horizontal back part not covered by the intersecting side wefts. The rest of the horizontal weft extended another 1 1/2 inches or so on either side of the intersection. This technique does require a weft that is pretty thin (I used the Wagman premium weft) and one that blends perfectly with the color of your hair.
If you have a cow lick you need to put the wefts an inch or two below it, or as Grandma said cut the weft and put it on either side of the cow lick. Also, making the roots of the weft a bit darker will help a lot. You only need to darken 3 or 4 inches down at the roots. You can use clippies to put the wefts in before you use protac to make sure the wefts won't show.
Mine is thin in the back as well. However, for some reason, getting that top weft up there really high actually seems to make it less visible. My back horizontal top weft (when my hair was shorter) was really right up at the top of my head. What helped to cover it was intersecting the two parallel wefts on either side of my part with the horizontal weft in the back. The \ / parts of the placement had hair that would fall down the back and help to cover the back weft. It also assisted the cowlick that I have there in falling down over the weft. I didn't believe this would work until I tried it. It just takes a boar's hair brush and a little hair spray to smooth it down over the top weft now and then to keep it covered.

I use LG and can generally place my wefts pretty high up. On the sides, I can usually get them around 1-1.5" from the top. Now, the back is alittle trickier. I have thin hair and cannot place the weft as high in the back. I gennerally have to have at least 2" from the top to keep it well hidden.

You can go much higher with the wefts/Protac if you use LG (just on the underside) to glue a final weft over the top of the last weft/Protac bond. When my hair was short and I needed the wefts way up there I was able to go 3/4" from my part on the sides and right up to the end of the part across the back using this method. I found that the "horseshoe" placement wasn't as undetectable on the top bond, though. I ran the top wefts parallel to the part on each side and intersected it with another horizontal weft in the back. It sort of formed a \_/ shape in the back, with the part coming down right to the horizontal piece (if that makes sense.)

Gina, I'm new to this whole thing, so I'm not sure if I'm understanding you. You angle down from the temple above the ear and then go across the back of the head and then around the other side of the head? Or do you use separate pieces for each of the sides and the back?
Yes...I start my first row 1.5-2" above ear, with the wefts(amount colors, etc)assembled
I use separate wefts for the temple to side manevuer, which connects to that above track aka row
Then I work my way down...measuring and assembling, as needed
*If you're still not getting the sides to bend...make an additional "diagnal" row, just above the first one mentioned above and slightly back off the hairline(staggered I guess you coul call it) and connect again!

Yeah, that helps a lot. It sounds like most of you go as high as I can go, too. That is good to know, because I was like "Well, should i go higher???" But, you've got to do what is right for your own head!
I just installed my wefts basically how Gina described. I used to do the horseshoe weft from side to side, but had problems with my back top weft showing as well - due to the little part that runs down about two inches from the crown of my head. I paid careful attention to place the top weft just below where that line ends and it worked great. Figured I could split another row to go another inch higher, placing on either side of that "cowlick" part line. Helps?
Thanks for the suggestion! If I am getting what you say, that is also what I do. I don't get any show through on the sides from doing that (thank goodness:). The back is where I seem to have the most problem!
I was just wondering how high up on the back and sides of your head you place your wefts (if you wear wefts)? I wear wefts with protac, and when I place them where this is no show-through, it doesn't blend as well with my hair, and I want to put them higher....but I'm afraid!:) I've put them high enough where there's a little show through unless I use a lot of hairspray....but I hate having helmet head on the top of my hair! So, I'd really appreciate mass feedback on how high to go!
