i agree, with hairpolice - especially someone who has done the hairpolice tours, they have lots of experience. plenty of people can learn to do pinchbraids but they may not be super small and they may not last.
it's sort of a specialized skill, i would say, and it's not a part of most extensionists repertoir as a general rule.
i think the hairpolice rate seems about average - one thing you might consider is making a visit and letting them put in just a couple streaks or something so you can see how it is done, and see how you'll like it. it might be a fun way to put some color in your hair, see how the braids hold up for you, and let your mom check it out too.
i've had them, i love them. for me they were a great method. i know some people have had "blowouts" and shedding out the yin yang..i attribute my luck to an experienced stylist (heather in ATL/NYC - she's a hairpolice tour girl too)

I pay my gal $70.00 an hour and she usually takes about 5-6 hours because I ask her to do really small braids. She is a wizard with those braids so I'd say she's pretty fast considering how many braids she puts in my head. Then I tip her on top of that! I spend about 250-300 on the hair I bring to her....so yes- pinchbraids aren't cheap, that's fo-sho! I don't feel what she charges is unreasonable considering how physically taxing it is to make those little braids. In this situation, the "you get what you pay for" motto really does apply. I would not suggest going to someone who has just learned. You will pay all that money for the braids to just slip out! It really is an "art" and takes the braider alot of practice to do them well. You want good clean sections ( no cross hairs....they hurt!) and the braids need to be tied off really well.

I posted this on HE101, but I know not everyone here is on that board too...I have a question regarding pinchbraids...my mom doesn't want to do any more extension installs (she's boycotting because she thinks i look better with short hair and our last two attempts didn't go very well). So, if I can't talk her into it, what is a reasonable price for pinchbraids? I'm in Minneapolis, so HairPolice is here, but it's $425 + hair, which seems really outrageous to me. There is a girl that will do it for around $250 (don't know if that includes hair or not) or I can bring my own hair (which i have) to the beauty school and pay $25/hour. What do you think??
