If your hair is as long as shoulder length, they really could have just used regular clips.  Even if they did it because they wanted to make sure they got every single hair out of the way, they could have just used a lot of clips.  I would just make sure next time to tell them you don't want any tape in your hair, and maybe bring a scrunchy and a set of your own bobby pins or the kind like this that you can buy cheap and undecorated in a drug store http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000A16RJW/sz-toys-20/ref=nosim

I went in for a hair transplant today.  My hair is about shoulder length.  Since they needed to make an incision on the back of my head, they held my hair out of the way with about 1 1/2" wide masking tape, which they wrapped around my head.  After the incision, they started to remove the tape.  It hurt more than the entire procedure!  I could feel my hair pulling and see the hairs on the tape.  I was horrified.  I already had baby fine and thinning hair.  Why would I pay 6K for a transplant only to lose it to masking tape!  I brought it up to the nurse several times and she knew I was frustrated.  She admitted there were several hairs but they would grow back.  She apparently told the dr who came in and tried to "cover up" by saying they used surgical tape.  No way, I know the difference and this was definitely not 1/2" surgical tape that he was trying to show me.  He kept trying to convince me that's what they used and the only hair that was on the tape was from the incision.  I don't buy it and now, after the surgery, I'm angry.  This procedure was supposed to give me more hair, not rip out many perfectly healthy hairs.  Why would they use masking tape anyway?
